Today’s Movie Slate is brought to you thanks to :iconssjcharon:
You know those drawings that you work on, and as you’re working on them you suddenly don’t want to ever stop working on them? Well this was a perfect example of that. I loved working on this piece right here, not just for turning a colourful beach day into a total nightmare, but because it was a ton of fun to fill it up with details. Drawing the Whalewolf in love with the lighthouse was fun. That Pteracuda came out way better than I was expecting, and what shark movie review isn’t complete without a Sharknado!? I mean come on, it was absolutely enjoyable to work on this from start to finish. Even the disgruntled Movie Slate was fun to work on as well.
So, oh boy. Let’s tackle these two one by one.
“Sharktopus VS Pteracuda” takes place right after the first Sharktopus, and it establishes how the original Sharktopus left behind a batch of eggs, from which new Sharktopus are born. Because that’s how things work, right? Ok, trying to make heads or tails of this movie is an exercise in self-restrain, before one starts going down the rabbit’s hole like this is Inception, getting deeper and deeper. So how’s the movie? Well, it’s not all that fun, nor is it that imaginative. It’s like a repeat of the first movie, except with less Erik Roberts and more moments of trying to make us feel something for the scientist main character or for the stupid monster. Now…
“Sharktopus VS Whalewolf”, now that’s where it’s at. It’s needlessly complicated, throws in Voodoo magic and a crazy German mistress scientist, and a guy transforms into the whalewolf after getting injected with orca and wolf DNA, and getting irradiated with Moon light. And to top it all off, Casper van Dien from “Starship Troopers” is in the movie and he’s hamming it up like there is no tomorrow. It’s stupid, it’s relentless, and it makes no sense whatsoever. And that’s what makes it so good. It embraces the stupid and does so with both arms, and for that I give it all the credit in the world. Give it a go, you’ll never forget it.
I hope you guys enjoy the picture!
