It’s okay. I was just confused, cause I only knew the meme :3

Sorry only know the original
Okay, did some research. Yes, the original video was from 2010. But the meme “they did surgery on a grape” which this image is referencing was last year (scroll down to “spread” section).
Grape surgery was done in 2010.
How is it 2010? Grape surgery was last year.
(and Friendship Games where Sci-Twi was introduced was in 2015)

I understood it to be that she’s getting excited at reading about all the hard science involved in the machine doing the surgery

Exactly. I saw the video as a demonstration of the possibilities the Da Vinci system will be able to perform in the fields of micro surgery, with it being able to perfectly skin a grape indicating the vast improvements in precision with regards procedures like keyhole surgery.
I’m disappointed that a significant development in medical technology has been overshadowed by ‘they surgery grape!!!’
It’s actually not a meme, I mean, it became a meme, but it’s actually a really cool thing. So, there’s a new machine for surgery called “da Vinci Surgical System”, which allows to do surgery with a much higher precision that what’s possible with human hands. Surgery on a grape was a demonstration of that, but the range of new possibilities for surgery that it opens is what actually should be the point of fascination, not the grape memes.
