Flurry laughed, burying her face in Pumpkin’s chest fur. She was holding the mare tightly, making sure that she wouldn’t be dropped to her death. Er-Well, all that would happen if she fell, was that she might sprain a hoof. They weren’t high up in the air, and they were both held aloft with magic rather than wings. “I would drop myself before I dropped you, Pumpkin.”
The mare pressed a kiss in Flurry’s mane, and the faux alicorn looked up, locking their eyes together.
“I love-” “I think-”
They both stopped talking, waiting for the other to continue. After a moment, they spoke at the same time again.
“No, you-” “Go ahead–”
Pumpkin laughed and reached up, gently placing a hoof against Flurry’s lips. “I love you, Aphro.” She said softly, her eyes shining with pure adoration.
Flurry’s cheeks turned even more pink than her fur, and she looked away for a moment, flustered. She put a bit more attention to the spell she was using, giving them a bit more support in the air. “You and your pet names will be the death of me.” She beat her wings once, twice, three times, though it didn’t actually affect their levitation.
Pumpkin tilted her head, clinking their horns together ever so slightly.
The spell spluttered for a split second, and Pumpkin yelped as they suddenly dropped five feet down. Flurry managed to get the spell cast again, and they slowed to a quick stop, still in the air. Pumpkin held her marefriend tightly, gasping as the shock of the sudden drop pumped in her chest.
“I’m sorry!” Flurry squeaked, pushing more magic into the spell. She liked flying, and she had wanted to show Pumpkin what it felt like. Now she almost dropped them both to the ground just because Pumpkin brushed their horns together.
Pumpkin took a deep breath and let it out again, loosening her grip on Flurry just a bit. “Is it okay if I…?”
“Yes.”
Pumpkin leaned close again, bumping their horns together. Now that Flurry wasn’t taken by surprise, she was able to pull her magic back, letting Pumpkin take half of the casting effort. They lifted farther into the air, and Flurry laughed as they twirled, tails swirling around each other.
“You’re amazing, Pumpkin.” Flurry said through her laughter, cheeks a bright pink.
“You’re more amazing, Flurry. I love you so much.”
Flurry nuzzled their noses together, horns still together, magic swirling around them.
“I know, sweetheart.”
[[In case you don’t know, Flurry cannot fly. As an alicorn by birth rather than ascension, she isn’t a true alicorn. Her bones are not hollowed, and her wings are not imbued with magic like a pegasus’ wings should be. She is more of a winged unicorn, if anything else.]]
