Description

Just recently, Dusk Star’s life as he knew it was transformed by a shocking discovery. Today, he was about to meet the pony at the center of it all.

Little had he known that this would be just what he needed. It wasn’t long ago that he found out that the neglectful stallion he had called “dad” was actually not his father at all. And now, standing on an unfamiliar doorstep with nothing but the address his mother had given him, Dusk was about to meet his real father for the very first time.

What was he like? What would he think of him? His mother had told him he was a wonderful stallion, but he couldn’t know for sure. He had no idea if he’d be welcomed with open hooves or turned away just as he was before. All he could do was remain optimistic and take that leap of faith as he knocked on the door.

Almost immediately, the door opened to an elderly, but grinning pegasus stallion.

Silver Script.

“Hey Dusk! You caught us just in time! My husband’s baking cookies, come on in!” Silver beamed and directed Dusk inside to which a grey stallion was in the kitchen placing a batch of cookies into the oven.

Dusk was taken aback by the sudden welcome. “Y-you…know me? You’re not surprised to see me here? I’m not intruding?”

“Well, I never expected your mother to actually come out and tell you about me. Once she told me she had I was a bit surprised, but I was excited to actually spend some time with my son. Come, sit down. We have a lot to catch up on!” Silver said with a warm smile.

“My son.” Those words rang in Dusk’s head like a sweet melody as a strange feeling of warmth spread throughout his body.

Right after Silver spoke, a gray stallion came out of the kitchen. “You must be Dusk. Silver’s told me a lot about you! Nice to meet you, I’m Star Bright but you can call me whatever you want!” He grinned as he reached out his hoof for a hoofshake.

Dusk reached out his own hoof and shook it, a wide grin spreading across his face. “It’s so nice to meet you too!”

But as he sat back down next to the pegasus stallion beside him, a million questions ran through his mind. So these stallions have heard about him. What did they know? What had his mother told them? Why had it taken him so long to meet them? Dusk was snapped out of his thoughts by a wing nudging him.

“Hey, Dusk, everything alright!”

Dusk nodded, opening and closing his mouth as if he had something to say.

“Look, Dusk, ever since I found out your mother was pregnant with you, I just had a gut feeling you were mine, and I’m glad I was right. I wasn’t there when you were born, but when Flash was away for training I would come see you almost every day. You wouldn’t remember but, those moments I spent with you, were really special to me. Your mother and I were really close friends, and when both of our relationships were falling out we really needed some company. We found companionship in each other and soon enough she was holding a newborn colt that looked very much like myself. Oh, I could never forget that time you smiled when I looked at you in the crib. It only seems like yesterday” Silver sighed happily at the memory.

“After the first couple of weeks, I wasn’t able to see you at all. It broke my heart but I knew it was for the better. You needed a father figure in your life that wasn’t just a friend.”

A lump suddenly formed in Dusk’s throat. Even through all the years of feeling neglected and unloved by the stallion who raised him, there actually was somepony out there who cared and thought about him. Although he didn’t realize it, his father did love him. And at long last, he finally got to know what that felt like.

A wave of emotion overcame him as tears sprung to his eyes.

“Hey, it’s alright, I’m here now and I ain’t ever leaving you again,” Silver draped a comforting wing over Dusk’s shoulders. “Twilight told me you had children. Moonbow, Starflower, Skydancer, and another one on the way, I think she said. I would love to be a part of their life, that’s if you don’t mind.”

“I-I’m fine, I just…I’m so glad I met you. I’m so glad to finally have a father in my life,” Dusk wiped his eyes. “I’m sure my children would love to get to know their grandfather.”

“That would be wonderful. Tea?” Silver took a tea cup off of the tray his husband was holding and offered it to Dusk.

Dusk wiped his eyes and took the cup with a smile.

”Yes, Father. I’d love that.”
