Why do people assume Twilight is being trained to become an alicorn? For all we know, being a full-blooded unicorn might mean she has even more magic potential than Celestia and Luna, even if she is not a god-like being.

I have no idea what loser sites you bozos frequented, but all the hemming and hawing I saw was post-CW, not prior.  
Cadence was quite beloved, but the actual episode made them quite meh about it, then the s3 premiere saved her and Shiny once again.

Besides, guys: Everyone feared the worst about Cadance, fearing that “horrible HasbrOC alicorn” garbage, and what bad came of that? Nothing. Cadance is a wonderful, if not somewhat superfluous character.
