Not really? You can believe what you like but, if Somber himself has an advising hand in this story, I’m pretty sure Blackjack is in character. Otherwise, what’s the point of conferring with him if you’re not going to take his advice?
Keep in mind that Speak doesn’t take place immediately after PH; it’s been a couple of years, so there’s plenty of time for Blackjack to grow, change, and attempt to cope.

Cause it was the biggest one. What I liked about Pink Eyes was the length, which is ironically why a lot of people did not wanna give it a try. Its like the story has to be long for people to notice it. And then they miss out on possibly the most original FoE story out there.
Also Puppy is best space-cadet.
I agree. Pink Eyes and Heroes need more love. It seems people only remember Project Horizons for some reason…
Different timelines.
If you are asking which ones I really enjoyed, I would name stuff like Wasteland Economics, Murky Number Seven, Pink Eyes, Outlaw, Memories, Starlight (still kicking myself over missing a physical copy of this one), Anywhere But Here etc.
There is a fair amount of really good FoE fanfiction. Sadly majority of them do not get much love from FoE fans.
Out of curiosity, what of other Fo:E sidefics besides PH and Homelands?
That is like saying the Dune sequels are automatically good (spoilers alert, they are not) just cause Frank Herbert´s son based everything off his father´s will, notes and ideas.
To me, personally, Homelands is the only real sequel.
Heartshine, the author of Speak, actually confers with Somber on Blackjack’s character. So, as far as we know, it’s very much in character.
Essentially, Threnody is what Glory could have been had Blackjack let her take the lead - this is stated in Speak. In a way, Threnody is Blackjack’s salvation, by showing her what could have been and helping her heal.
