| Haven’t done one of these in a while. And I haven’t used Pear Butter in like a year. Spent some time this weak porting over the up to date rig over to her, as well as updating her mane and tail with layered hair meshes. In that time I also decided to rework the eye textures a bit. |

| I made them a bit more glowey instead of relying on the plain looking streaks from before, as those honestly didn’t work that well in a 3D environment. |
| And of course we have the animation itself to talk about. It’s a perfect loop of an idle animation, something I wish I did more often. It’s the perfect type of animation to work on subtle movements, breathing, and weight shifts… and, my favorite, the micro expressions. The micro expressions are key to making a low profile animation like this to work well. Can you imagine how dull this animation would feel if Pear Butter didn’t have any eye darts, eyebrow twitches. Even if she still blinked, it’d be a lot worse because not having any kind of movement in those areas are incredibly unnatural. I’d only encourage doing that if the character you’re animating is supposed to be possessed, but that’s really it. |

Doing all of this mostly alone sure doesn’t help make things go faster unfortunately. This show has a whole bunch of people behind it to fill the roles and specialize in, which is why we can get 26 episodes a year while it takes me over a year to perfect one 3D model.
I mean Pencils was hired to do official IDW comics for MLP so there’s hope ;p
Unfortunately, it probably took DJThed a few dozen hours to model and animate this. Just like it takes a fan animator like 2Snacks or BrutalWeather hundreds of man-hours to finish a 3-5 minute animation. Not exactly studio pace. See all those Koreans and Chinese at the end of every FiM episode? They’re the reason we get 26-episode seasons, and not 4-episode ones.
But yes, many fan artist/animators are IMO far beyond “official” quality. Too bad they can’t hire their own studios. ;)

Yeah but i still see that old model under that tag. Something else should be used to differentiate models from original artists.
It sells her amount of concern even harder in the fact that you can easily see her breathing faster than normal, maybe even a little harder, considering how her breathing works with the rest of her motions.
It honestly looks like her old pet just died. Good job, mate.
