  1. The Jock and the Nerd

A lot of you might be wondering, “Why does this cocky, jocky dare-devil have a salty, solitary nerd as his best friend ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶g̶o̶-̶t̶o̶-̶p̶e̶r̶s̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶c̶a̶l̶l̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶m̶b̶u̶l̶a̶n̶c̶e̶”? Well, these two didn’t really get to know each other, much less acknowledge the other’s existence, until starting school. Despite Champ being a few years older than Rocky, the small colt had not only twice the brains he had, but he was also smarter than the whole class combined. So when Champ needed some ‘help’ with his homework, he knew who to ̶t̶r̶i̶c̶k̶ persuade into giving him a hoof up. However, as these afterschool lessons continued, Champ started to show up for more than just the long and boring lectures on fractions. Out of boredom, Champ began to actually talk with Rocky, only to find that this stoic colt was more than just another freakish egghead- he was in fact…a really interesting and (sort of) funny guy. Soon they began hanging out with no schooling involved, doing things like checking out caves and gorges where Rocky would collect minerals as Champ explored, or when Champ would be playing his video games while Rocky watched and would give strategic advice to help him win. Before either of them knew it, they had become pretty good friends and things just sorta stayed that way. Champ wasn’t used to hanging out with nerds, but he found Rocky’s weird ways and social awkwardness to be a rather nice change of pace and a little endearing in a way. Not to mention, he was always available for Champ to drag his flank out of his musty room and accompany him on some dumb shenanigan of his. As for Rocky, for once in life he had (somehow?) made an authentic friend and was pretty grateful deep down, even if Champ was impulsive airhead that would wake him up at 5 in the morning just to pull a prank on the school.

  2. Yin and Yang
Growing up, Harmony and Pansy became rather close as foals after a life-changing experience bonded them together for life, and ever since then, they’ve been inseparable! These two besties are like PB and J, or like Day and Night, with Harmony being the Yang to Pansy’s Yin. Where Harmony lacks in a cool head, Pansy is there to fill in, and where Pansy’s indecisive and doubtful nature hinders her, Harmony is there to back her up with cheerful confidence and assertiveness she needs. However, even though Harmony is older and often treats Pansy like the baby sister she never had, Pansy acts much more mature in more ways than the hybrid can count on her claws alone. And Harmony wouldn’t have it any other way, as she admires the thoughtful, intelligent, and calm attitude of her friend. As for Pansy, while she’s typically reserved and sickeningly nice with others, she feels comfortable enough with Harmony to reveal her more playful, teasing, and frustrated side of her, even going so far as to hint about her insecurities and doubts. These fillies have more in common than just their complementing personalities. For one, both Harmony and Pansy are fascinated with flora and fauna, specifically the exotic types, and they like to spend most of their time exploring never before seen places, dabbling in nature magic, and discovering new creatures together. They also make quite the team when it comes to what they do, with Harmony as the adventurous explorer leading the way as Pansy tagged along with her encyclopedic knowledge and notes for research. When they aren’t chasing after some (probably lethal) animal or messing with ancient spells, they enjoy doing normal gal-pal things like chatting over milkshakes, going for long walks, and seeing how many braids they can possibly make within 10 minutes. However, even their most normal activities are always going to have an added, creative touch from Harmony.

  3. The Mom/Dad Friends
Dusty and Sonata aren’t exactly buddy-buddy friends, but when it comes to hanging out with the gang, the two pair up to fulfill the role of the Mom/Dad friend. Basically, they operate as parental figures for the group, as they seem to be the only ones with common sense and an acute awareness of the dangerousness of the shenanigans they tend to blindly walk in to. Dusty may be a worry-wart, but he’s also a big softie, and since he’s not assertive enough to convince the rest of the gang not to get into mischief, he might as well tag along to keep everypony safe and act as the voice of caution (not that anyone really listens to him). As for Sonata, she can be much more firm when needed and only gets dragged into following along on their ‘expeditions’ because who else is going to save their butts and drag them all back in one piece? In fact, she’s convinced that Harmony and Champ are conspiring to send her to an early grave ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶a̶r̶e̶ ̶s̶u̶c̶e̶e̶d̶i̶n̶g̶.̶ However, when the gang isn’t heading over waterfalls, or accidentally spreading the Pony Pox Plague ( which a cure was found for, thankfully), Both Sonata and Dusty go into what I like to call, Low-gear Parenting. For Dusty, that means being…well…Dusty. He continues to be the supportive, go-to-friend for comforting and a pick-me-up muffin and is revered as that soft, but wise buff Dad-friend you can hide behind if your ̶s̶i̶b̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ friend is trying to kill you. Sonata is much calmer as well and less bordering-on-insanity in this gear, although she won’t hesitate to set things straight and call them out on their behavior. She’s also the pony that the gang goes to for solid advice and help for their problems, which Sonata enjoys doing immensely. When it comes to Dusty and Sonata’s friendship together, they may not be as tight at the rest of the gang is with their respective BFF, but they certainly relate and connect over the four children they seemingly adopted and are now the parents of, apparently.

Welp, there goes half of my soul and a year’s worth of brainstorming.

( halp I don’t know what went wrong with Sonata’s pose here)

“Twice the amount of growth time?” Does that mean it’s grown at half the estimated rate, or for twice the estimated duration?
