Maybe those gems serve another purpose besides giving that diaper some flair? I mean, even if Rarity doesn’t intend to use them, I would think she would know what can happen, and wouldn’t put gems into a diaper in case of accidents. That is of course, unless they are “deodorizing” like the crystals that can be used in cat liter. Maybe some gems can be magically enchanted to control odors?
