When Hickory Smoke sent out a warning squeal, Sunstride came running over the hill.
 
“Did you find it, Hicks?” He saw the pig digging around the base of a tree, the pig trotted back with a large mushroom in his mouth.
 
“Good boy. Atta boy!” Sunstride reached out a hand and the pig dropped the fungi into it, the little pigs eyes glittered from the praise. Sunstride noted the shape, texture,and most importantly the white spots on the top half of the cap.
 
“White spots, not red, just like the book says. Awesome!” Sunstride dropped it into the basket. “That means they aren’t poisonous.” Hickory grunted once but he wasn’t paying attention, the mushroom trivia meant nothing to him, but hopefully his master wouldn’t mind if he snuffed around for something tasty to eat. As his faithful pig searched the area, Sunstride quickly gathered the rest of the mushrooms. He’d make sure to mark the area and check back later.
 
“Now lets see…” He pulled a sheet of paper out of the front pocket of his overalls. “What else do I need.” The list of ingredients were spelled out in his looping scrawl though the sketches were painstakingly detailed, rivaling professional quality.
 
“I got the cliff daisy but I still need demon germanium, prancing plant, and star spider hairs.” He was glad he’d remembered to pack gloves for this expedition. Very nessesary for that last one. That also meant a trip into the Everfree, he would have to make sure auntie Shy didn’t see him going in or a punishment far worse than greasing cow teats awaited him. But that was a worry to deal with later.
 
“Okay, Hickory lets get a move on afore it gets dark, we got ourselves a good ol’ health tonic ta brew!”  

 
After thinking about it for a week, and being inspired by World of Warcraft and a KayFedewa character of the same name, I decided to change Hickory Smoke’s name to Sunstride. Sounds more dynamic and pegasus-like.
 
I didn’t want to trash his old name so I gave it to his pet pig. Just a quick reminder Sunstride is one of Soarin and Applejack’s children, the second youngest of four. He is a talented flyer and eventually grows up to be a professional cloudball/stormball player. His special talent is brewing potions of all types. The one he is making currently is one of his first as he starts experimenting with his interests in the medium, got a book from Twilight’s library about different plants, herbs, and their medicinal properties. But instead of simply using a well known recipe, Sunstride decided he’d go maverick and make his own health potion. His ma has been suffering a sore hip the past few days and her little boy is determined to fix her up good and proper!
