Description

No idea how or even if Jack Pot fits into Trixie’s story, but my headcanon right now is her parents are divorced and she is estranged from her father for some reason (jealousy of his success, or anger for leaving mother?) Perhaps her mother is passed and the two just grew distant. Hopefully we get a resolution to their situation in a future episode.

I thought about making a pic of an tearful confrontation between them, but then decided a tearful reconciliation would be a lot more satisfying.

Their colors really are nearly identical. Odd that she has an eye gradient but no highlights, while he has highlights but no gradient.

Because he’s a gag character that’s not planned to ever be seen again.

Let’s wait until season 9 to make that statement. The writers pay attention to what fans show interest in; Derpy, Trixie’s return, Applejack’s parents, etc. If fans indicate they want a Trixie and Jackpot episode, the writers will give them one.
Background Pony #5A24
Why does Trixie’s dad have the exact same color scheme as her? This isn’t normal with most pony genetics we’ve seen in the show.

Saying she “might have made it up” is a moot point though. I mean, in that vein for all we know she did attempt to go to the proper authorities. There was a pretty big hunk of time between Boast Busters and Magic Duel. Besides, the only reason Starlight and Tempest Shadow aren’t serving life in prison is because Twiggles was willing to handwave more serious evils committed by the subjects of her sympathy so honestly that’s kind of a moot point too, y’know? :D
I don’t really feel like going on about it though. I sympathize with the underdogs and I sympathize with people standing up for themselves; I don’t really got anything else to say about it that wouldn’t just be us going around in circles, yeah? :D

It’s also important not to make a judgment based on one person’s testimony; you’ll learn that in jury service. I think Starlight and Tempest got off too easy too. The show’s still written to sell toys to girls, and it’s written from a more optimistic and idealistic standpoint, so they weren’t going to be as heavy with the punishments as they probably should have been. If it weren’t for the staff magically repairing the entire city at the end of the movie, I’d say Celestia would be perfectly justified in making Tempest and the Storm Guards do most of the backbreaking repair work. Once all the damage is fixed, then they can start working toward trust and friendship. And Glimmer should have had to experience the horror of the futures she was creating first-hoof, not to mention be utterly defeated by Twilight who by that point was an alicorn and should have been able to handle a unicorn easily. A calling out by Sunburst would probably have been deserved too. But again, optimistic merchandise show for girls and their families.

I understand sympathy for underdogs and those who want to stand up for themselves, but it still doesn’t excuse disproportionate retribution.

Anyway, yes, let’s enjoy this cute picture of a theoretical scenario where Trixie reconciles with her dad.

I’d absolutely face legal trouble, but nobody would pity the vandal. I’d probably be hailed as some kind of memetic hero for it if it was uploaded to Youtube :P

Or called violent and unstable for retaliating against property damage with bodily harm. Your car can be washed off and repaired, but physical injury, especially as serious as broken bones, can stick with someone for far longer, and incur far more cost. And thinking you’d be hailed a hero for an act of disproportionate, retaliatory violence is frankly kinda concerning.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for using force to stop violence, but beating someone up for damaging your property is disproportionate retribution. You should punish the wrongdoer through the law, ideally by setting a camera up in your car so you can catch the little buckwad in the act and present it as proof to authorities, or if they prove apathetic and incompetent, put it up online so everyone knows what the little coltwipe looks like. They damage your property, you damage their reputation. That’s fair retribution.

Honestly though, what else was she supposed to do? She clearly tried to just move on with her life, but people wouldn’t let her. It was bullshit she targeted Twilight for no real reason, yeah, but it’s not like she just said “Welp, a single bad thing happened to me. Time to ruin every life I ever come into contact with to soothe my own soulless existence”; Trixie seemed like a pretty clear case of “These people aren’t going to stop. Time to fight back.” :/

She could, you know, report to authorities that she’s being harassed? And since she’s so keen on using magic for retribution, she could turn around and spray-paint the ponies who vandalized her cart. That would be far less extreme than what she did with the amulet.

Again, we’re only getting Trixie’s account. For all we know, she made that whole scene up, since she’s using magic and all, and she’s speaking from a defensive position. And again, she had no right to enslave, disfigure, and torture people . That’s not fighting back, that’s cruelty, far worse than anything we know that happened to her.

It seriously concerns me when fans are willing to handwave more serious evils comitted by the subjects of their sympathy while condemning the lesser evils comitted against said characters. This is why I strongly dislike Draco In Leather Pants.

Agree. Trixie is ultimately the cause of a lot of her own problems, though some colossally bad luck compounded some of those problems. Pre-Starlight friendship, she’s that sorta-friend who you want to succeed but is kind of a dick and keeps making bad decisions. Post-Starlight she’s still kind of a dick but at least she finally has someone she trusts who can reign in her behavior a little.

It certainly doesn’t help that Trixie had a couple of guillible dum-dum fanboys whose parents evidently hadn’t taught them that going to the lair of a big, dangerous animal is a bad idea.

And they deserved to live the rest of their lives as slaves in fear of torture and quite possibly even death due to the Amulet’s influence over Trixie? Because from where I’m standing, what Trixie did was way worse than spray-painting a car. We’re not just talking about giving a beatdown or humiliation (which, FYI, Trixie did first; she might have been challenged, but where her challengers simply showed off their skills without touching Trixie at all, she chose to rough up and humiliate her opponents), we’re talking about forced lifelong enslavement. That’s like punishing vandalism with torture. You’re punishing the lesser evil with a greater evil.

Not to mention we don’t know the full story behind these ponies; we’re only getting Trixie’s account of what happened, so of course she’s going to paint herself as the victim. How do we know she didn’t wrong them first? Trixie certainly wasn’t going to show anything incriminating her of any wrongdoing. Had Amulet!Trixie been left unchecked, she very likely would have grown into a villain as bad as Nightmare Moon or Chrysalis, if not worse.

And I’m not going to disagree that some villains got off too easy; the way Twilight had to beg Glimmer to stop being evil still sticks in my craw. Believe me, I can identify with that feeling of anger that rises when someone not only wrongs you, but laughs about it too. Nothing pyayses me off like gleeful malice. I’ve even had my car egged and keyed before. But how far is too far? At what point does the evil of your actions outweigh the evil of those who have wronged you?

Like with that Lightning Dust debate we had, I will concur that the episode writers were ultimately at fault for not handling the underlying message properly. They made who was supposed to be the main antagonist of the episode unintentionally sympathetic due to circumstances outside the antagonist’s control, and chose a more mean-spirited ending over one that would have served the message of friendship better, like having Trixie work with Twilight and her friends to stop the Ursa Minor. And maybe have the due round of apologies from both Twilight’s friends and Trixie for the way they acted.

Those are background ponies. They exist entirely as interchangeable faces for crowd shots and minor roles that don’t require actual characters, which is why they appeared in every corner of Equestria or multiple times in the same shot. Treating them as actual characters with internally consistent storylines, roles and personalities is something only the fandom did – none of them had anything like that until a couple of episodes in Season 5, and most of them are like that still.

So, no, I don’t see any reason to expect that a couple of background ponies having the same models as background ponies in Ponyville crowd shots is viable proof that Ponyville residents were chasing after Trixie, rather than her just developing a bad reputation wherever she went.

Even if they did, that still doesn’t justify the slavery and tyranny she put an entire village through. She used dark magic to disfigure people, fuse them together and torment children, in addition to sealing off the entire town so no one could escape her twisted revenge scheme – all the fandom’s dislike aside, Snips and Snails were prepubescent boys. What would you think if you saw someone forcing two twelve-year-olds to drag a chariot with her on it and goading them on with a bullwhip and justified it with “well, they got my car destroyed”?. Absolutely nothing justifies what she did. Yes, the show has forgiven people for far worse, but it does not pretend that what they did was right or justified – Luna wasn’t justified by her inferiority complex, Discord wasn’t justified for treating people as his toys, and Trixie wasn’t justified in what she did.

And if you did beat someone bloody for spray-painting on your car for whatever reason, I expect you’d still face legal trouble for assault and battery.

They were chasing her around doing crap like this:

They absolutely had payback coming. If I came out and some dumb punk had spray-painted crap on my truck for any reason, let alone something so pedantic that he didn’t like a show I put on once, that dumb punk’s taking the beating of his life :P

Besides, characters have been forgiven and praised for far worse :P

I don’t think Trixie should be praised for the whole Alicorn Amulet fiasco. Even if she had right to be upset with Ponyville, she did not have a right to enslave them. And once Twilight forgave her for that whole incident, she still acted antagonistic the next time she appeared.

I will also remind everyone that Glimmer contributed to her magic act becoming big, so technically no, Trixie is not a purely self-made mare. Like any truly successful person, she’s had help.

That said, I do feel sorry for her that her father doesn’t even seem to know she exists, and if he does he doesn’t seem to be making an effort to help her get by. I hope by season 9 we get the expected reconciliation episode, perhaps ending with a father-daughter collaboration.

It makes me root for Trixie frigging HARD though. She’s the underdog who’s had nothing but adversity thrown at her every single time she appears in the show, but it never holds her back. EVER. She not only took down the bullies who heckled her show but actually made it a part of her show, she fought an ursa minor (she lost, yeah, but she still tried), bullies drove her to poverty and she came back swinging with the Alicorn Amulet, she challenged Princess Celestia’s mentor twice and found a way to win the first time around, brought her career back from the brink and made her show better than ever, and went on to be integral in saving Equestria. Also, in spite of all this, apparently being homeless with a deadbeat dad, she’s an entirely self-made mare who is proud, loud, living her dream, and always smiling. Seriously. Trixie rules, and she owes it to nobody other than herself. :D
