Tempest: “I’m only saying I’m the protagonist and you are the comic relief.”
 
Grubber: “I still don’t buy it. I can accept being just an evil ally but obviously Twilight Sparkle is the hero.”
 
Tempest: “No, the hero is the character who changes the most from the beginning to the end of the story. She hardly changes at all, even with her ‘messiah moment’ close to the end.”
 
Grubber: “No, the hero is the character who supplies the primary viewpoint in the story. The movie follows her around so it’s her, not you.”
 
Tempest: “Modern entertainment offers a wealth of fiction where the main point of view character is more like a framing device to tell someone else’s story. Detective novels, sit-com television, and superhero comics provide examples.”
 
Grubber: “Sorry, that argument is valid only if the point of view character gets to be present and watch another character go through the hero’s journey. You chase her around but are absent for many of the key scenes. At best you’re more like a herald and then a threshold guardian.”
 
Tempest: “Says you.”
 
Grubber: “Read Joseph Campbell some time.”
 
Jayson: “Okay, you nerds! Break over! Take your place on the set!”
