Yesterday, the site derpibooru.org launched a call called Choose Your Ship, where it was intended to choose one of three shipping options for Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer. However, and although the majority of the fandom seems to be divided between FlashLight (Twilight Sparkle x Flash Sentry) and SunsetSparkle (Twilight Sparkle x Sunset Shimmer), I have decided to create my results and, based on my own research, consider which would be the best shippings that should be known by the rest of the fandom. The results shown below are the following:
- FlaShimmer (Flash Sentry x Sunset Shimmer)
This ship takes as main base the failed love relationship between Flash Sentry and Sunset Shimmer that occurred before the events shown in the first film of Equestria Girls. Still and despite the fact that only in Legend of Everfree did they return to this relationship, but in a more friendly way; the fandom continues to despise that ship as a consequence of what happened in the events before EQG1, as well as the constant overexploitation of FlashLight and SunsetSparkle. I personally think that this ship should be given an opportunity, since for me, Flash and Sunset make an excellent couple, and in fact, they are part of my OTPs.
- TwiXie (Twilight Sparkle x Trixie Lulamoon)
One of the shippings that were previously the most popular, and is now practically forgotten, is undoubtedly the ship between Twilight Sparkle and her first magical rival, Trixie Lulamoon. Long before the arrival of Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer, the Great and Powerful Trixie, as she called herself, caused several headaches to our protagonist; so much was the pupularity of our beloved blue magician that her ship with Twilight was in the Top 10 of shippings almost four years ago; unfortunately, the leading role that Sunset Shimmer took in Friendship Games has meant the beginning of the decline of TwiXie, ship that is practically being overshadowed by the already overexploited SunsetSparkle. In my humble opinion is that, despite not being part of my OTPs, TwiXie deserves to have a second round, and recover that love of fandom that had been lost in recent years.
- TimberFlower (Timber Spruce x Wallflower Blush)
Well, from this shipping I do not have much to say, but… Timber Spruce and Wallflower Blush share many things in common; Among those things are the love towards nature and the desire to be remembered by all. In my opinion, I think that Timber Spruce does much better chemistry with Wallflower Blush than with Twilight Sparkle, since the latter is a know-it-all and a techie (which in most cases is contrary to ecological thinking)
What do you think about it? Do you think these shippings deserve more love?
Also, I wanted to add it’s debatable whenever Flash didn’t need (basically) immediate help - he was at that moment quite sad and lonely, and Sunset helped him, due to feeling sorry for him - he just needed slightly different help. Especially that you could argue, that with other characters, like Fluttershy and Rarity, in the same sense also didn’t need that immediate help…
With Forgotten Friendship, I would also want to expand that I think the writers would do at least one of the things I mentioned, if they at all set up Flash and Sunset as a couple - but they didn’t.

Hmm, you mean you would like SunTrix out of the combinations of these six people, or that Sunset and Trixie have more romantic looking interactions than Applejack and Sunset, or Flash and Sunset?

Wel, maybe another way of playing with hair would be more “romantic”, but here Sunset’s just messed up his hair, in a way as I mentioned, older siblings do - you certainly saw this before.
And dunno, if we go by this logic of seeing gestures as roomantic, Applejack and Sunset are even more suggested to be a couple, seeing they danced together, full of happiness in Dance Magic - with dancing together, being faar more romantic than any of Flash’s and Sunset’s interactions.

And dunno, I think the writers are actually fairly consistent at showing Sunset isn’t interested in Flash - aside from outright stating she never felt anything towards Flash in Rainbow Rocks, I think in Legend of Everfree, the writters made her somewhat blunt to Flash, so that people wouldn’t assume think she is feels romantic feelings towards him.
Not mention, Forgotten Friendship, has at least arguably multiple evidence against Sunset having growing romantic feelings towards Flash/them being set up as a romance - Sunset didn’t seem to care Flash forgot about her redemption, and all of their recent interactions - including the ones in Legend of Everfree and Good Vibes. I think if there was anything built up between the two by the writers, I’m sure they would at least give a single line, or scene were Sunset shows any distress Flash forgot her redemption, and it destroyed their interactions. The special also didn’t even refer to Flash and Sunset being a couple, despite going into her past, nor even it was even alluded to. Which if the writers set them up as a couple, I think they would at least allude to this, especially in how Fogotten Friendship was a retrospective work. And in the finale, when Sunset sacrificed all of her memories since coming to the human world, to save the friendship of the Humane 6, Sunset didn’t even react Flash being a few feet away, despite giving up all memories of their time together - again, if the writers meant to hint some romance between them, I think Sunset would give some reaction towards Flash, and losing memories of him.
Look, I understand your concern about Flash, but I don’t giving him romance, isn’t the only way to develop him. Indeed, many think it would be better if he got other development than (just) another romance, as it would completely go against the hatedom of him, and prove more he isn’t just a shallow love interest.
Flash I think, also did became more well liked, and he was more developed since Legend of Everfree actually.
He also wasn’t never universally disliked - his pairing with Twilight, is among the most popular straight pairings in the series ~~at least from fanwork numbers ~~ 1959 fanarts , and he has a lot of positive fan art, and fan works about him.
(Compare how amazingly unpopular the Sci-Twi x Timber pairing is - to this day, it has only 126 fanarts on derpibooru… )
I would say he was since start somewhat of a more of divisive figure, than disliked by most.

Well the thing is Flash helped Trixie because she needed help. Trixie helped FLuttershy because she needed help and so on so forth. Flash was the only one who didn’t need immediate help. I don’t know if it’s typical behavior to playfully mess up your ex boyfriends hair either.
ANyway I’m not even a flash Sunset shipper myself I just think they make the most since out of all the other characters on this list. Otherwise I think Flash is really underdeveloped. I use to hate him but now I just want him to have a point in the show. I feel bad for him now he’s like the fandoms punching bag. And he definitely could have had more relevance in Rainbow Rocks. Like wasn’t being a rockstar his main character trait?
Well yes, but that other characters, also weren’t nice to the same characters that were nice to them - ie Flash was nice to Trixie, but Trixie was nice to Fluttershy, and Fluttershy was not nice to Trixie, but to Bulk Biceps, and etc. And and yes, Flash started the cycle, and was it’s end, but the whole theme was to show good deeds, return to you, with Flash’s good deed eventually returning to him, hence the title and theme - Good Vibes - and as I mentioned, Sunset behaved rather very sibling like (do you often see messing up hair being presented as romantic?), than anywhere romantic when helping Flash.
Speaking of Legend of Everfee, this is consistent Legend of Everfree, Sunset kinda behaved more like a big sis towards Flash, with how she advised him on his issues with Twilight(s).

The difference is that Sunset wasn’t prompted to be nice to Flash because he was nice to her. He was nice to Trixie. The whole cycle circled around to him by Sunset. Sunset was nice to him because she’s friends with him. And yeah the whole everfree thing plays a bit into my opinion and yeah Sunset wasn’t giving it much thought but I chalked that up to her having more pressing matters concerning her friends had powers they didn’t understand and their camp counselor turned into a she demon.
Nah, I wouldn’t say so - Sunset is in that short behaving pretty big-sister rather than romantic - she messes up even Flash’ hair, which something older siblings do, or people in such relationships.
Not to mention, on this basis, this short also hints Sci-Twi at being romantically close with Bulk Biceps, Flash with Trixie, or Sunset with Rainbow Dash…
And do Flash and Sunset interact in another short? - from what I know this is the only short they interacted so far.
(Not counting here their interaction from Legend of Everfree, as that’s not a short)

I’m not saying it can’t work out, just that they’re not on the same page right now and Flash can’t just sit around and hope Sunset realizes he’s still got feelings for her.

Again, I think people have right to critize, including Timber (although I’m not myself critical of his character, I think others have the right to be such), or how his romance with Sci-Twi is written.
Again, having free speach, people have the right to critize. If don’t agree, you should lecture every critic there was.
You don’t realize seemingly that “Flash deserves to be with Sunset” is your opionion - Flash and Sunset didn’t really have any really romantic interractions - in fact they had just three (reall) interractions at all, and only spoke on screen twice. And as mentioned bellow, Sunset mentioned as far back as Rainbow Rocks she never was interested romantically in Flash, and her latter interractions, rather confirm it, especially in Forgotten Friendship || as Sunset there shown no care Flash forgot completelly about her redeemption, which would destroy any chemistry she had with him, and didn’t mention him at all when she lost all of her memories, while she had an emotional meltdown, when Forgetting about both Twilights, and the novelisation based on the script, and released first, basically states both Twilights, are the most important people/ponies to Sunset. But didn’t mention Flash at all, despite him being about 10 feet away.||

timber loves sci twi. the should be ashamed of what they criticize about timber. he’s not bad guy, the real waifu stealer are the fans, a pairing does not count. flash sentry deserves to be with sunset shimmer.

Well, I think another reason for the decline of Twilight x Trixie popularity, was the lack of interractions between Twilight and Trixie - in the first three seasons (specifically season one and three), they had brilliant interractions, but after that, they didn’t interract much. This is why I think severall factors, influuenced the drop in Twilight x Trixie’s popularity.
Also, are you maybe this image’s creator (3D4D). As I got this impression from the fact you uploaded this pic, and how you responded - sorry if I’m wrong.

Yeah, I can see what you mean, I also see Sunset as kind a big sister to Flash, especially that her reaction towards Flash in Good Vibes, was quite sibling like (ie messing up hair).
And as you like both Sci-Twi x Timber, and Sci-Twi x Sunset, you might be interested, there are I think, some visible stylistic paraells between the moment from Starcrossed you have as your avatar, and Sunset’s and Sci-Twi interraction at the end of Legend of Everfree:

Well, One LINE doesn’t or can’t shoot down an entire ship. I have heard many things about people(Not saying ANY EqG ship fits here) hating each other but eventually getting married.

Obviously the Flashlightliebers and the Sunlightliebers are the ones who want to watch the world burn… For those overexploit their shippings as they can not, and never get tired. They are too sadistic.
