Lunar Supporter - Helped forge New Lunar Republic's freedom in the face of the Solar Empire's oppressive tyrannical regime (April Fools 2023).
Thread Starter - The evil council continuation

The theory of earth ponies bringing their tradition from elsewhere seem to be the best so far. It is rather weird that they didn’t colonize an area so close to Canterlot sooner, maybe there was something that have been destroyed then rebuild by the Rich/Smith families.

Granny Smith is centuries old, which is in accordance with the natural lifespan of little ponies. You don’t see many old ponies because most of them die from misadventure (such as the twice-yearly horrible magical monster attacks) before reaching such ages.

Hmm… I went and watched Granny Smith’s story in Family Appreciation Day again, and noticed something interesting. Turns out Stinkin’ Rich was Diamond Tiara’s great grandfather, so that would make him Filthy’s grandfather. The flashback also seems to show that Stinkin’ Rich and Granny Smith (what’s her maiden name, anyway?) were more or less the same age.

So, it’s possible that Granny Smith is actually Applejack’s great grandmother instead. Well, I suppose that AJ’s parent’s had kids in their later years, but that seems less likely. Anyway, depending on how long the lifespan of ponies in the show have, Ponyville may actually be over a hundred years old and Twilight’s statement of “hundreds of years” in season 1 was simply an exaggeration.

it’s entirely possible Twilight got her facts wrong. Also, there could have been settlers there for years, they just never formed a proper city.

But Rich pretty much states that what she said was true.

Either that or Ponies live a lot longer than we think

Once again how old is Ponyville?
Like i said back when people where asking about how Luna could help banish Sombra if him and Nightmare Moon where both 1000 years ago, I think it’s more that for some reason some don’t know how long it really has been and just add years and/or round it off without thinking, that’s in universe.

Simple. Ponyville was founded by earth ponies. Who came from somewhere else. It was those ponies tradition to wrap up winter without magic since, where they came from, there was no unicorns.

…I made a connection like that a long time ago, back when the episode first aired. If both events hold truth, Granny Smith is at least a couple centuries old.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I was talking about/looking up talk about this a few minutes after the show ended.
I mostly saw lots of answers amounting to “retcon”, talking about how it doesn’t matter because the writers don’t care about continuity and the background details are just there as filler.

Pff. Granny Smith’s “hundreds of years old”, and that’s that.
What do people have against harmless overanalysis?

Either 200+ years old, or they just forgot they said that. Also both episodes were written by the same person, so no “different writers” excuse.
