Well the movie would have only lasted about ten minutes if he was there in the beginning.

If you ask for help from someone with random powers, you should expect random results. Getting no help is a possible result.
 
Either that or he figured they had it covered and he just watched while gorging himself on popcorn.
 
It would be genuinely interesting if they actually address this in a Season 8 episode instead of hand waving (hoof waving?) it away.
