I sometimes thought the flag was colored in gradients like the Crystal Ponies’ manes so the hues are possibly the darker and brighter versions of those colors possibly. At least that’s what I think I saw.

Maybe it was like Saruman’s robe. It looked white, but was actually made up of several colors.
