Description

I don’t do trades very often, but once in awhile someone will approach me with an interesting proposal. Recently mustlovefrogs approached me with one that tickled my fancy. Now much to my surprise she’s already gotten her part of the deal done with her take on two of my OCs Petina and Carousel. So it was obvious I needed to hold my end of the deal. So while I continued to digest my Thanksgiving dinner from last night I decided to do some preliminary study sketches of the two characters that will be in the piece I am doing. Foto Finish and Zesty Gourmand.

Now I was asked to draw them like a couple of those operatives/troubleshooters that lived in so many Cold War spy novels, TV shows, and movies. For this piece Foto is going to be a blade expert while Zesty is going to be a dapper pistol wielding character.

Since I’ve never drawn either character, especially in her style, and since I wanted an Italian style folding stiletto/switchblade in the piece I did some studies. I cranked these sketches out in about 40 minutes today.

You may be wondering what happened to Foto? For that I recommend you check out Must Love Frogs DA page which will can provide you with a much more detailed explanation than I can in this posting.

“Then she brought out two foreigners. One was a burly, dark-complected man with a handlebar mustache, a bright white smile, a bright white turtleneck sweater to match, and a Western fencer’s foil in his hand. ‘This is the Dago. He’s our edged-weapons specialist.’ The other was older, tall and thin and humorless-looking with silver hair cropped close in a military burr cut. He was holding a very modern, very purposeful-looking, short black rifle of some kind, and without preamble he began to speak. ‘This is an M4 carbine. It is a five point five six millimeter caliber, magazine-fed, gas-operated, air-cooled, select-fire automatic carbine, currently issued to the US military and several others. You will learn its nomenclature. You will learn its stoppages.’”
