Ah, the irony…. Random Throwback
Friendship Games aired right after S05E16 Made in Manehattan instead of S5 Finale: Cutie Re-Mark due to the sudden scheduled mid-season hiatus. The DVD/Blu-ray release dates for FG can’t be altered because of marketing and stuff.

Heh. We’re talking headcanon. You don’t have to agree, I won’t be insulted. I just wanted to fully explain my thoughts on the matter. What you accept as your own headcanon is up to you.

Not really. Remember, Luna’s heart was slowly poisoned to her sister, which eventually made her vulnerable to the darkness. The same is true for Sunset. She gradually allowed ambition to rule her, and it made her hate Celestia and want to come back with an army to rebel against what she saw as a tyrant keeping her from her true destiny. Hate is a powerful and addictive drug, and that’s what the elements removed. Sunset was left bereft of it, and without it to fuel her rage all she could feel was sadness for her betrayal of Celestia, of people she called friends but only sought to manipulate. It’s easy to ignore your conscience when you feel you are justified.

Luna had her mind clouded by darkness; Sunset didn’t – she was too full of herself and chose to be evil from the start. the Elements simply removed Luna’s corruption from her heart and mind; Sunset had no good in her heart – she was shown to be inherently unrepentant – so they brainwashed her into being good; they replaced her old (bad) personality with a radically new (good) one.

you’re saying the Elements did not fundamentally change Sunset, but they did; she has absolutely no semblance of her old self after EqG 1! and she became remorseful because she didn’t want to be evil in the first place? false: she chose that path by her own volition; nobody/nothing else forced or influenced her to. and I reiterate: she was brainwashed – just look at how her personality changes drastically in only a matter of mere seconds at the end of EqG 1!

and yes and no, Sunset was turned into a excessively saccharine puppet (everything about her is influenced by the EoH) because she has been stripped of her old self, but Luna wasn’t as she returned to her normal self after her reformation (her evil stemmed from jealousy and resentment).

Heh, I’m really not. If anything, I’m pointing out that what the elements do is the opposite of brainwashing. Both Luna and Sunset were taken over by dark nefarious powers beyond their ken. You can see in both of their transformations a look of panic and surprise. Neither wanted to become what they did. The Elements removed that imposed darkness from them, but it did not fundamentally change them as people. Luna and Sunset both know what they did, and were remorseful for it, because that’s not the type of person they wanted themselves to be.

If they had been brainwashed, don’t you think it would have left them changed into something they weren’t? Luna was dark and brooding before and after NMM. Sunset is impulsive, and just a little arrogant. Brainwashing would have left them both happy and mindless puppets.

Depends on if you consider madness a condition or a part of your personality I suppose. With Luna and sunset it seemed like magic was involved. So it’s natural that magic would be the cure.

Oh, that’s easy. Sunset was not just reformed, she was purified. She was kind of a demon when she got hit, so it removed all of that hate and bitterness in her heart that had lead her to rebel against mommy to begin with. She came out a new Sunset, much like Luna after NMM.

That being said, her tendency to anger was a part of her personality. She’s no longer evil, but that doesn’t change who she is.

there was no reason for Sunset to be a villain in the first place to know whoever she’s dealing with is a baddie. by that train of thought, Princess Twilight should have started out as a villainess too to be able to know villainy. also, Sci-Twi being the main villainess is unfitting for her, as she’s actually a timid girl that her peers use as a door mat; she isn’t antagonistic as Sunset once was (and occasionally still is) – the true big bad was Principal Cinch.

no she didn’t. she was just being an inconsiderate jerk, and did not even apologize for it later. whenever she confronted Sci-Twi, she was an ass just for the sake of being one – I am surprised she didn’t go back to being a bully! and she never needed to learn anything about empathy; she already knew all that stuff from the moment she was “reformed.” just look at her in EqG 2 – she can identify every single friendship problem she sees instantly.

but her personality is inconsistent; it doesn’t make sense to make her a hot-headed a-hole when in EqG 2 she exhibited no such behavior. wasn’t she painted as this little-miss-perfect do-gooder in EqG 2? her sudden changes of personality in EqG 3 are incongruous to what she was established to be in the series.

therefore, none of the points you make hold any water.

Sunset has been on the bad side before; her experience was necessary to know if the doppelgänger was against them. For this reason she was an antagonist.
Sunset had to make a mistake with Sci Twi, to learn about her empathy.
The times you get angry at big Sunset is because; Her personality has not changed radically (that’s fine).

AJ you need to put your arm around Rainbow Dash’s back. She looks lonely without ya.

Well, it was awkward finding out that the new Twilight was a spy. It’s only natural to be suspicious at first. When someone comes along with a face you trust and then you find out it’s not them.

With the Season 5 two-part finale, “The Cutie Re-Mark”. Pony Twilight is too busy with Starlight Glimmer’s time-travel spell to come to Sunset’s aide. By the time she is finally able to convince Starlight to call off her vendetta, gets back to the correct timeline, gets Sunset’s messages and heads through the portal, Sunset has managed to take care of the problem by herself. Ironically enough, both arcs end with Twilight and Sunset managing to talk down the villain and offer their hoof/hand in friendship. Both this movie and the finale were written by Josh Haber.
