At this point, pretty much ANYONE who tries to date any incarnation of Twilight (except Sunset) will be considered a loser. Just as a tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny, a blind hater will always find a pretext for his blind hate.
how is he a loser?
Sci-Twi and Timber do admittedly have somewhat better chemistry than Princess Twilight and Flash, but only in relative terms. Their relationship still doesn’t feel all that natural (or engaging for that matter). Not to mention Timber’s pick up lines in LoE were cheesy and almost unsettling (the staff even mentioned that they had to have Timber’s VA speak with a certain inflection so his lines wouldn’t come off as creepy).
While Timber did thankfully have some relevance to the plot of LoE, I wouldn’t go as far as to say he had a particularly large stake in it. With the right editing, he could have been easily written out of the movie. His involvement isn’t all that much more significant than Flash’s moment of chivalry in the first film, where he proved Twilight’s innocence by providing evidence that she was framed.
and don’t forget timber got that moment where he went at those magic roots with a hatchet.
Seconded (especially about how his “full of himself” moments seemed to be just attempts to get noticed/make people laugh), I actually felt like Timber and SciTwi grew closer over that movie, whereas Twilight and Flash never seemed to go beyond “I find you attractive.”
Plus I liked that Timber had a strong stake in the movie’s plot, given how it involved his sister. Poor Flash got pretty much nothing like that in the first movie despite his past relationship with Sunset.

I will admit, the romance between Sci-Twi and Timber was handled slightly better than the romance between Princess Twilight and Flash. However, Sci-Twi and Timber are still far from being a well-written couple story-wise. And while Princess Twilight and Flash unfortunately did not have enough time to develop any common interests, Twilight’s initial attraction to him wasn’t entirely out of the blue either. Let’s not forget Flash was the first individual to show Twilight any sort of compassion (or for that matter basic decency) in a world completely alien to her. In both cases, though, the romantic sequences never served any significant purpose and felt a bit forced or even contrived.
His “full of himself” moments were played mostly for comedy, though. He didn’t seem the type to act like that all the time.
To be fair, though, Timber’s “solid personality” wasn’t exactly endearing either. For many fans (myself included), he seemed to be a bit too full of himself (almost cocky), and the romantic scenes with him in LoE grinded the action of the movie to a halt. I’m also not sure about Twilight “getting to know him better before an actual romance sparks”; she was already blushing hard the very first time she laid eyes on him. That said, I don’t hate either him of Flash, and I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing both of them find genuine love. While both characters could be improved, neither of them deserve to have vitriol hurled at them. And this is all coming from an individual who couldn’t care less about shipping.

Ugh. Just use the dam filters already!
You know, aside from the two comments I deleted… And the many others deleted on other images, and more…
I wish I lived in this world where he got a ‘free pass’ as I still see a lot of stupid vitriol lashed at him for no reason, proving that most of this hate is entirely petty.
A lot of it has to do with the fact that, while Flash didn’t have much of a solid personality when he was first introduced, Timber did. And while the Twilight of Equestria fell head over heels for Flash with almost no real interaction between them, human Twilight (albeit attracted to Timber from the get-go) gets to know him better before an actual romance sparks.

For the record, I don’t have any problem with either character. Just a weird trend I’ve noticed.
