PH’s pacing didn’t bother me. Somber constantly having his characters ‘actually’ be the ones who solved major plot points in FO:E, writing a story that just happened to be bigger in scope than FO:E and even the more tense moments of MLP proper combined, and his often creepy insertion of certain sexual proclivities ruined it for me. And I LIKED the middle bits of the story, even if the beginning was bad and the end became incoherent.
Quality of the story aside- really, BLACKJACK is the biggest, edgiest, most ridiculous Mary Sue I’ve ever seen in the fandom, in the edgiest fanfic I’ve ever read in this fandom (disregarding ones written just to rustle jimmies). So I don’t know why she gets a pass.

That’s the weird part. For a while, it seemed like everybody loved her and the story, then all of a sudden opinions did a 180 and now shes a Mary-Sue who needs to die. I mean, it’s not the only time the fandom completely changed its mind on something (See My Little Dashie), but still. The story’s pretty good in my book.
Ahh, Project Horizons. I loved the original FO:E, I thought it did a great job meshing the feelings of both series, maintaining a great sidestory of how the world ended, and had an extremely likable cast. PH should have been the same. Great expansion of the world and I absolutely loved the cast, but good GOD the pacing… or lack thereof. I mean, how many chapters is it before the fricken titular Project Horizions is even mentioned? There’s just so much nothing in the story.
By the time I knew who and what Nyx was, it was already cooler to hate Nyx than to like her. Much as with the Star Wars prequels, while I could see the flaws, yes, the actual source material never seemed anywhere NEAR bad enough to justify the outright disgust and hatred that followed.
Frankly, Project Horizons was an infinitely worse story (at least by the end) and it never got a fraction of the hate Past Sins did. Befuddling.

I never got the rampant Nyx hate. It felt like it literally appeared overnight.
