I don't think you can blame that on Lauren, tho. Working with an existing world is much easier than one that you have to make up first so it's harder to bring subtlety into world building and later writers actually create a lot of problems or inconsistencies with the worlds lore. Also she had to do things in a certain way since there were expectations connected to her making a little girls show. However one of the main appeals of season 1 is the fact that it is an entire new world that is build from scratch and Lauren brought a lot of new and memorable ideas. The poor writing styles are debatable because you won't find much that doesn't have poor writing in one form or another in mlp. We don't actually know how Lauren would have written things going forward.
