Well, that certainly explains a lot. Just because that’s season 1 Luna doesn’t mean that can’t be what happened. Discord could’ve done that to her a long time ago (even before Luna and Celestia used the Elements of Harmony to defeat him) but it took a really long time for it to take effect because she’s an alicorn, or Discord could’ve made it not take effect until later on purpose.

I’ve always assumed that Discord was the one that made the CMC start fighting like that, not that they freed him. To me, I find the idea that he creates strife and disharmony merely by being there to make him that much cooler.

Twixie Should Be Canon
Interesting enough, but it was reportedly confirmed by Word of God that the same force that corrupted Luna also aided in Discord’s escape. I doubt the CMC are 1000 years old, or that Discord could’ve freed himself.
