Starlight, Trixie, and Twilight: “Bye Sunburst.”
Maud: “…Did he yay any of you too?”
Starlight pupils go small and hair goes back to how it was in session 5.
Trixie and Twilight: “MAUD!”
@Darth Sonic
Well he didn’t really outgrow it exactly, he enjoyed playing it with Twilight and Starlight early in the episode, but Starlight got too focused on how interested he was in how well he got along with Twilight. What he didn’t want to do was act like he and Starlight were still foals, nor did he want to focus on the game at the expense of the many other interests he had.
@hironakamura
Needs to get rid of the beard and have more spiky mane. Otherwise he’s actually perfect. And unlike a certain someone from Love Hina, he can put his hoof down when he needs to.
@hironakamura
Well, he was supposed to have been there to see her. Look how long it took him to notice Starlight left when he was hanging out with Maud.
@Ryodraco
Actualy whenever Starlight’s friends would show Sunburst something cool, he would immediately show it to Starlight. You’ll notice it most with Maud when Starlight left and Sunburst went looking for her.
Starlight and Sunburst’s problem was they wanted to be friends but they couldn’t connect. They can’t even remember things they have in common except for that board game. And Starlight wanted him all to herself. There’s that too.
@Background Pony #0CAB
The “bonding montage song” didn’t play for them but that’s just how it is. They bond off screen. Always. Or at least in other media like books but its also always just mentioned and never shown. We’re never meant to see any of it.
There’s always next time when Starlight is introduced to Sunburst’s friends.

I suppose because the focus of the episode was on how alienated Starlight felt by how well Sunburst got along with her friends, in ways even she didn’t, and how Sunburst wasn’t as interested in the things she had clung to from their past. They did bond once the matter was resolved (i.e. the life size game and the rest of his stay), but we didn’t see much of it due to time constraints.
@Ryodraco
So how come he didn’t seem to actully bond with Starlight, this episode felt a bit incomplete to me.
Also I am just super happy that Sunburst and Trixie got a long well, with both of them being shipped with Star, I was afraid the fandom would put them agaisnt each other
I love the fridge brilliance in this episode that showed one major thing Starlight and Sunburst do have in common. That is Sunburst gets along really well with her other close friends, all of whom are ponies who have had issues with bonding with others in the past just like Starlight did.

Ah. Hadn’t watched the episode yet.

Not sure how one outgrows a boardgames like that. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.

Yandere Starlight is canon. Harem protagonist Sunburst is canon.

So glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that. In fact, I look at this image and think of Tenchi in Tokyo.
Yup, it was a multifaceted issue.
