Actually, I think Equestrian territory reaches a little further south than that.  
Judging by where the Friendship Express train system terminates at the southwestern most point at a port town.
 
Who knows what other regions Storm had conquered before the movie?  
We don’t even know if there is another side of this planet. Most likely perhaps. The fact that we have yet to see where Zebras and Saddle Arabians are.

The Macintosh Hills marks Equestria’s southern border.
 
Presumably Storm King spent the majority of his efforts on the other hemisphere until the movie.

Yeah, “undiscoveed west” area does look quite suspicious.
 
Also, there seems to be a road leading to nowhere running southeastward of Griffonstone. Maybe the other half of that continent?
 
And if you look really closely to the north. There seems to be another landmass across the northern ocean north of the Crystal Empire.
 
There is definitely another side to the planet.

I assume they will update the map, except those missing areas (they will be added if they mentions the exact locations).

It would depend on what Season 8 and Season 9 do, and if the characters go to any new locations. I know the writers have said they wanted to visit the zebra homeland at some point, which obviously hasn’t happened so far, so maybe that.
 
Assuming that something like that happens, I think one last expansion is… let’s reasonably likely, but certainly not assured.
 
There’s also the Friendship Map supposedly expanding in the Season 8 premiere, going by some recent Hasbro releases.
 
(If the show does visit the zebra lands, then given their location on the Friendship Map, if this last expansion does actually happen then I imagine it would probably be to the west.)

I’m still wondering whether or not we should expect another expansion to this map.

I Want to Know wheres Tireks and Scorpans homeland is located.

I wonder if Equestria commands any oversea colonies?
 
Like a tropical island or someplace?

Most likely it’s one of those fuzzy “Disputable territories”. They were quite common in the past IRL.

Twilight says in the movie that going south of the Badlands means they’ll be leaving Equestria, though it’s ambiguous if the Badlands themselves are in or not. The Arimaspi territory is presumably not Equestrian, though the Farthest Reaches seem like they would be the on the end of Equestria. There are ponies living in the Hayseed Swamp but are the ones living in the Forbidden Jungle Celestia’s subjects, or Ahuizotl’s?

No basis for it, of course, but I tend to assume that Equestria’s territory stops somewhere around the Macintosh Hills – from the jungle and the Arimaspi territory down, it would be mostly wilderness, small local governments (like the little village by the Farthest Reaches, Klugetown and the hippogriff kingdom) and relative anarchy. Give the SK’s personality, especially in the comics, I figure the souther half of the continent was less the land he ruled and more the lands he ran protection rackets in.
 
That said, I do like the headcanon that Equestria is a name used for both a country and a continent depending on context, like America. So, Equestria-the-continent covers the whole landmass from Yakyakistan to the basalt beaches, but Equestria-the-country only goes from the Crystal Mountains to the Macintosh Hills or thereabouts.

I asume the area below the forbiden jungle and the farthest reaches isn’t pasrt of Equestria and all this time it was part o Storm King’s territories.
 
Unless it do is part of Equestria bu was under SK’s influence all this time but the Equestrian gov never actually cared because it’s a part of their territory they don’t give a crap about like real life Russia and it’s far east or USA and it’s southern territores

Is there a reason the compass rose points north as being to the right?
