It’s not the individual similarities, it’s more that having enough of them to make a stack out of gives me the impression they were trying to imply something.
He has a red tail, and presumably a red mane.
But, the rest of him are consistent with Flash Sentry’s colours.
Flash Magnus was a legendary figure, I expect quite a few ponies are named after him. I expect Stars and Swirls crop up fairly often in unicorn names too.
They’re named alike, they look alike, Magnus was in the Royal Legion and Sentry’s a royal guard, I can’t help but think this stuff was intentional.
