Here is a special changeling that has an interesting ability to separate her head from the rest of the body and making some crazy stuff with it.
Mostly pranking others or putting her head into other people’s shoulders. :P
Enjoy!
“I don’t need him at all anymore”
No. It’s just like with normal creatures and actual food. Activities that cause a lot of exertion burns more energy than more passive ones, which requires more energy to be replaced. In normal creatures, that means the eating of more food, or the burning of stored calories from fat. Magic is essentially energy as shaped by will, and the emotions the changeling feed off of are magical energy. So they are using one source of more potent energy in place of food to sustain and fuel them as a normal creature would. Again, however, this is magic, which allows certain things which would not normally be capable by regular creatures to be possible. In this case, being able to sustain the head while it is removed from the body.
Wait. So, does this mean that Changelings, so long as they have enough energy/life force, are essentially intelligent zombies?
Well, these are creatures which are able to shape-shift, and feed off of strong emotional energy to survive. So, in theory, it might take a higher amount of magical emotional energy to sustain her head and body separately. As such, if she is well fed, she’s fine and capable of doing her act. Should she get low in energy, she might feel the effects of hunger (like light-headedness), and either need to re-attach to her body or feed. Should she have her head attached when her power gets too low, then she would be unable to remove it, having it be better able to sustain herself as a whole, in tact entity than as two separate portions.
This is all theory and speculation, however.

Neat.

The magical kind of magic? Never saw that coming.
The magical kind
According to her creator, she definitely can do that.
What kind of magic?
Because magic
Or maybe she can do them separately.
Imagine the terror she could instill by changing her body into one person, and her head into another.
