zecora said “this is stealing” and I was correcting her. the usual strategy con-artists employ is:
claim you stole from them, some abstract concept that can’t actually be stolen.
demand retribution in the form of things that can be stolen.
rob you of your stuff and you get called a thief.
I didn’t mean to imply that zecora actually thought that reading a book is stealing, but there are people deluded enough by these con-artists to think it’s 100% true.
you can’t steal an idea, because when you take it from me, I still have it. you can’t steal an idea, and you can’t sell an idea. it’s just a physical fact.
you can, however, steal attribution, which is what zecora’s really afraid of. she doesn’t get credit then, and poison splash gets credit for stuff she didn’t think up.
or as zecora would put it: when you study my work and then do just the same, you’re not stealing my work, but you are stealing my name.

Poison is true to her word. She is simply studying Zecora’s work.
Zecora is however as you said, afraid that she will take her research and sell it as her own.
