it’s fine if you don’t subscribe to it. it’s not something i’m particularly invested in, to be honest. i’m mostly arguing it because it’s a fun brain teaser to try and defend a theory i randomly threw out on a silly suggestive macro. i think i did a decent job, personally. not top marks, but good enough.

Ok then. This is going nowhere, and I don’t think it will turn out well if we continue. I still don’t accept your theory, but at this point I’m basically trying to convince a watsonian to convert to doylism.

they have to do with general maturity. traveling to a city without supervision and being turned to for what is basically psychological analysis, even by those blatantly adults, throws into question how much the world of equestria considers them ‘children’ any more. we even had an entire episode of sweetie needing to spell out to rarity that she’s ‘not a filly anymore’. for all intents and purposes, they’re being treated more and more like adults, a change which happened specifically when they got their cutie marks.

like i said in my first comment, these mostly feed in to the question of when a pony is considered an ‘adult’ by equestrian standards - that the cmc, upon getting their cutie marks, began being treated more like adults than ever before. what i’m positing from that is, that if they are in fact seen more as adults now, that could logically extend to more, y’know, adult areas of adulthood. it has nothing to do with physical maturity, just a theory on how equestria might view the transition from childhood to adulthood.

but if you want to talk about sexual maturity and real-world connections and what all, okay. there’s been a long running theory that cutie marks are a sort of pony puberty. it’s probably not a direct analogue, but close enough, i guess. in which case getting a cutie mark sort of is transitioning into adulthood. now, equestria’s baseline technology is pretty low. there are some odd technological disparities, but looking at the general state of things, we can assume it’s maybe late-middle ages or early-renaissance, in conjunction with our world’s timeline (being like reality unless noted, see). in that era, and for a fair while after even, puberty really was the jump to adulthood. it wasn’t all preteen, teen, young-adult stuff - this was the age when the youth would actively start getting married. equestria being at about that level, and the cmc being treated as adults after their puberty-analogue hits, therefore feed into the theory that in equestria, they and their other cutiemarked peers would be considered legal by equestrian standards.

the thing is, my initial arguments were pointing out notable departures from reality that imply it works differently. to repeat: the cmc being sought out by people, including well-to-do-adults, as experts in their field. traveling to different cities on their own, no supervision. i am actively noting where it is canonically not like reality with these. so again, not a counter argument.

again, this whole thing I’m doing is about evidence, suggestions, and wild speculation that the reaching of quote-unquote ‘adulthood’ works differently in Equestria than in (insert presumably Western country you’re from here). so just kinda saying ‘nuh-uh that’s not how it works in the real world’ isn’t really a counter-argument.

Cheerilee’s class is not designed as a high school. The animators made it look like a school for young children. You have to think of this in terms of visual storytelling.

@Ihhh
I mean high school seniors go to ‘grade’ school - 12th grade, in fact - and many of them are legal. Hell, lots of juniors are legal. Consider that we’ve never seen a lick of evidence that there’s an age bracket above their level of schooling, outside of specialized institutions - y’know, colleges and junk. Why wouldn’t they be at the top of standard education? ‘Of age’ isn’t synonymous with ‘no longer in school’.

As for parenthood, tell me exactly how many confirmed parents we’ve seen. The Mane Six’s sans Applejack, who it’s difficult to gauge when they had their kids, and the Cakes and Shining/Cadance. That’s seven sets of confirmed parents, two of which are recent. Not exactly the greatest sample pool.

@HornyVinyl
you sure? just look at how the cmc are these days. go-to experts in the field of cutie mark psychology, taking trips to other cities without supervision… ever since they got their cutie marks, they’ve been treated like independent adults. therefore, one could logically assume that the standards for adulthood in equestria are cutie mark based. ergo, in equestria, diamond tiara is legal.
