Background Pony #99DD
This showed an interesting side to Maud: A complete disregard for the moral consequences of sharing her rock knowledge and no signs of guilt or remorse for her complicity. I still can’t tell if she was joking about world ruling rock knowledge or not.
And people thought Star Swirl had no sense of right and wrong.
Perhaps the ruling the world thing was a test. Pinkie seems like the type who would write long letters home telling her family everything going on in her life, including things like a new friend who once enslaved a town and came close to destroying history. If Maud already knew that, perhaps she said what she did to see what Starlight’s reaction would be.

Although I’m more inclined to think she just has a darker, more nihilistic sense of humor than her sister does.

Although we could also go another way with this. Given Maud’s rock based worldview, perhaps she looks at things more with a sense of geologic time than the way most of us would. Maybe she sees Starlight’s former transgressions as only a brief moment in a life filled with interactions that will shape what she is. It would be in keeping with her character after all.

(Insert The Shawshank Redemption “geology is the study of pressure and time” quote here.)

Wait…did, did she help Chrysalis find that magic-negating rock formation?
Did she mine out the Alicorn amulet’s gem?
Siren gems? (Assuming they weren’t a natural growth on there bodies like seashells.)
It all makes sense now. Maud has secretly been behind every major villian’s rise to power. She’s going to be the season 7 final boss.
