Celestia wants to pass the torch. You would too; Only four years and America’s presidents look half-dead. Celestia’s been doing this for thousands of years… And for a thousand, didn’t even get to sleep. Immortal in body, but in mind… It’s high time for retirement. Let the student do it. Celestia’s going to hit the beach for a few centuries.
 
I for one am not opposed to it, but again, I hope they explore the implications of being immortal and having that kind of responsibility. Would be ample opportunity for a “saying goodbye” episode, whether Celestia and Luna depart for greener pastures or in the future where Twilight outlives her friends. A little heavy-handed, but that’s what it would take.

I think it’ll happen, just not in the series, maybe an episode that takes place in the future.
 
As far as we know, Twilight is the only personal student of Celestia, why would she mentor someone, and only that someone? She has the best potential to succeed her and Luna, as come on, they’re old. Twilight is the light and dark, she would rule both of them if she were to become a princess.

Why would she ever agree to this?  
She’d outlive all her friends and family.

I don’t think I would like this, but if it does happen I hope it’s in the last episode of the season…

I’m actually totally looking forward to this. I really hope it happens!

I don’t have a problem with Twilight becoming an alicorn goddess one day, just not during the course of the series. She’s got her life and friends in Ponyville.

But…I like alicorn Twily.
