Complaining about “stupidity” or “being a dumbass” or the like is basically a paper tiger. It holds a universal emotional appeal, since many people have some group which they irrationally hate and think of as “stupid”, so they think that all the noncommittal anti-stupidity rage is on their side. At the same time, it doesn’t target any specific problem and fails to support itself with any truly logical judgement; it coincides with logic at best, and usually doesn’t even make that much effort. As long as you’re preaching against a generic insult, you can act superior without needing anything to be superior about.
