Gilda the Griffon was one of many Griffons causing a ruckus against the ponies in what was once a quiet town of mostly Unicorns and Pegasi. The Griffons were demanding that they pay a protection fee to keep out the more dangerous Griffons out of town. The extortion was only successful due to the fact that the lack of earth ponies meant that they could not meet the Griffons in a contest of strength. While Gilda herself was part of the gang taking the money, she very clearly had issues with it, but hadn’t left since it was earning her money towards never having to go back to that junkyard of a hometown called Griffonstone Pass. When the Warriors of Darkness arrived, it was the first time Gilda and Rainbow Dash had seen each other since they were children.

Rainbow and Gilda’s history was very shot in the grand scheme of things, but it was very influential for the both of them. Gilda met Rainbow at a camp her mother had sent her to. She was a bit shy since she was the only Griffon there (her mother insisted that in the Solar and Lunar lands, they had things that Griffons could never give or teach). She and Dash were made to be fast friends, and they got in more trouble than any other campers that attended then and since. However, Dash couldn’t really feel at home in a place that only pushed her to be a team player, not to be the best, so she left with quite a bit of flash. Gilda couldn’t connect with too many others after that and soon left as well. Her mother wasn’t too happy with that. With that began Gilda’s long rebellious streak that followed her into adulthood and working with the wrong crowd, and a less than happy reunion with Dash.

Things surprisingly ended without much fighting at all as the Warriors of Darkness were able to talk the Griffons into backing out. Dash’s relationship with Gilda certainly helped, but not without severing the ties between the two. The Pegasus walked away with her head held high for helping, but while Gilda didn’t show it, she felt pretty shattered for falling out with Dash. After getting back home, she had no real clue what to do with herself. She was still in her junkyard of a town and even more depressed than she thought she could ever be. Gilda spent the next few months going through the motions. Earning a few bits here and there selling her incorrectly passed on family recipe scones, she felt she would never have enough to leave. Her life took a startling turn when Dash came to Griffonstone on a mission as a Warrior. She reluctantly helped Dash and her companion on their quest that slowly repaired their relationship. They regained a friendship that was thought to be lost, and while it was fine asking a certain Post Griffon to deliver letters for her, she decided to try a new life in Ponyville. Though currently she mostly stays in the clouds since she doesn’t have a proper place to stay, and still has a bit too much pride to ask to crash at Rainbow’s place.
