It’s not so much the kids - who probably don’t care - it’s a combination of boardroom politics and what adults think kids want. If you sell a toy and it bombs, your career is in more danger if you took a chance than if you did what everyone else did. Parents buying toys for girls are going to choose pink/purple toys over other colors because that’s what toys for girls are supposed to look like. The little girl isn’t going to care if Luna is dark blue and came in a black box.
That’s essentially what I said. “They don’t think girls will buy it” meant by girls/for girls, this includes their parents. That’s what I’m describing. Hasbro only wanting to use “marketable” colors.
I was rather amused at a comment made by a parent I saw once where she said she got her young daughter a Celestia toy, and the daughter was annoyed she was pink and not white as in the show.

They also wanted to remove Luna from the show
I’d always heard that they just powderpuffed her color scheme into the S1 Luna look because they thought her proper colors– which she was originally intended to have in the Series Premiere– were too dark and they were convinced the toys wouldn’t sell.
I hadn’t heard that, but it’s something else I wouldn’t put past them. They also have a habit of releasing her toys in purple instead of blue for that same reason, they think girls won’t buy it unless she’s purple rather than blue. Same reason why Celestia’s toys were initially pink. Unfortunately unlike Celestia, they still do purple Luna stuff. Even when the officially-licensed plushies became good, she’s still purple. And when she is actually blue, it’s a blue similar to her S1 coat. It seems like only the collectibles aimed at older fans are the correct color.
They do the same for Chrysalis. In the show she’s almost solid black, but the few items they’ve released for her are grey. It’s very frustrating.

@Twilatron217
Aparently Hasbro
That’s still hearsay at this point, since no official statement has ever been presenteds on the matter. People are mostly taking for granted that was the reason because it would hardly be the dumbest toy decision Hasbro ever made.
I’ll repeat what I said earlier in this thread. They also wanted to remove Luna from the show because they thought she would “frighten the kids.” And this was during season 2. They lost that decision.
So yeah, I could totally see a stupid decision like the teeth from them.

Just got both of these figures this past Black Friday, but only now do I realize that my Twi’s teeth aren’t painted in, just like in this pic. Did they all ship that way? Or does anyone have one that’s properly painted right out of the box?
Someone below said none of them had painted teeth.

I mean how sensitive do they think little girls are?
They have an evil scary looking bug queen and they’ve had a demon and no one batted an eyelid, but when you draw a snarly face on a pony then suddenly it’s too scawy fow widdwe hunny boo boo”
So I don’t quite understand what their logic is.
That’s what I mean about out of touch. But to be fair, not that I’m defending the stupidity of this, but in the case of EQG, the target audience age was shifted higher. It was aimed at the tween market, so that might’ve been why they didn’t have a fit at Sunset.
Or, they could’ve just again been out of touch, and didn’t realize it.
To be fair for sunset’s demon form, they’ve made an active attempt to make sure all future Villain’s “Monster” forms are cuter/more marketable as toys. Gloriosa’s form is basically just her with weird goggles and green hair, and Midnight sparkle was able to be turned into a smiling happy looking toy without any issue due to not being as traditional of a demon design (having more of a fallen angel than demon look).
And the dazzlings designs, barring their glowing red eyes, were fairly normal as well.
So sunset’s demon form is more of an outlier than anything at this point.
After reading that, for some reason now I want toys of the Sirens in their natural forms. Preferably as squeezable vinyl toys that squirt water.
>Siren toys that function as squirt guns
that would actually make a great GOH toy actually…

Well at least that means I don’t need to hold off for a ‘correct’ set and I can open my ‘flawed’ one. That doesn’t help my Wonderbolts set which is flawed tho. :v

Aparently Hasbro though the teeth were too intimidating for kids so they removed the paint on the final release.

A little white paint ain’t hard to add anyway!
*Facepalm*
Reminds me of when they wanted Luna removed from the show because they thought she would “frighten” the kids.
Hasbro is so out of touch sometimes.
It’s on ALL of them, from what I heard Hasbro’s higher ups thought the toy looked too aggressive and would “frighten” little kids.
So they removed the white paint.
ONE JOB HASBRO. ONE JOB.
