“I found it amusing that Thorax never had dialogue in his purified king form.
…guess he still needs to mentally process all this.”
Yeah, I was kind of disappointed too that they never let him have any words in his new form… just cause I wanted to see if he’d sound any different than he did before, possibly. Not to mention, would’ve liked to see if the changelings could still transform into whatever they wanted, even if they found a way that means they don’t have to now! ^^ Plus, I hadn’t thought his “I want to learn all about friendship! And maybe one day I can take that knowledge back to the Changeling kingdom” line would come full circle the same season he was introduced! Since I’d hoped we’d get to see more of him in future episodes set in the Crystal Empire… not likely never seen again after this one, maybe a mention or two at best. Even if plenty of “fan favorite characters” (not just in this show) never get seen again after their first appearance.
But the big question I wondered about, after a day or two passed when I saw the second half of the finale (which to date, is the only one to NOT have a song in it, let alone one featuring all of the Mane 6 in at least one of the parts of the 2-part ones, even if I can understand why given the severity of the situation, despite knowing they’d somehow win) is: what about the changelings who were still masquerading as certain ponies in Equestria? Even if I assume we never get another episode/finale with Chrysalis seeking revenge on Starlight as she vowed (assuming she’s still in the show after this season as Twilight’s student and doesn’t go back to her old village), I do have to wonder if she’d recruit those changelings left for her “petty revenge” or if they’d side with Thorax after sharing their love as well. Probably just one of those things we’ll never know, unless they put it in an IDW comic or something else that likely won’t be an episode, because it’d be too extreme perhaps.
@Vinyl Fluff
Exactly. They go for the fastest, easiest way to deal with hunger, pretty much instinctively. In terms of difficulty:
Build trust and friendship in true form>typical evil plans>give love wholeheartedly

Much like with Starship Glimspress, I would have preferred that their heel-face turn wasn’t so whiplash-inducing. He blasts Chrysalis back and breaks the throne with TAKE IT ALL and whatnot, pupates into purified form, and the rest of the changelings, at most, get the glittery wings from all that ambient love energy for now until they establish their own trade routes of friendship.
That, too. They were too quick to turn against Chrysalis. Maybe it could be explained that they jumped at the chance to end the hunger, since Thorax said it never ended.

I suppose that makes sense, but that’s also why I kinda disliked how all the others just changed since there seemed to be an intermediate part where the wings change from the stored up love.
I had a problem with that as well. Thorax’s been in the Crystal Empire for some time now, experiencing true friendship and freely-given love. He’s been exposed to all that for awhile so him “releasing” all the love back didn’t seem implausible. But the other changelings were like “Oh, OK” (love boom!)
If they’d given friendship a chance, and eventually were able to do that, no problem. As it, it seemed incredibly rushed. It’s one of the few things I had a problem with with these episodes.

I don’t get why Thorax looks so different and got bigger than the rest, he was just a normal changeling drone like the rest, only difference is he left the hive; so he should have changed in a similar fashion, not into something like that.
You can always say he was changed with his time in the Crystal Empire. Being exposed to so much friendship and love, while returning it. We see his wings were changed by this. I’d assumed his extended time there is what the difference was.

@Stotter
They are exactly based on beetle mandibles. Though, I’m not certain whether there should be less spikes and points or more in order to better distance their resemblence to cervine antlers. lol
I don’t think they wanted to distance the two, they probably intended for them to look both like mandibles of a stag beetle and the antlers of a stag… stag.

King Thorax: “Sigh! I’ve got big antlers. Isn’t that enough to let you know that I’m an male?”
…Yeah, do us an favor. Don’t cut off your antlers. …Please.
If it wasn’t for the big antlers on his head then I’m sure a lot of fans would’ve easily mistaken King Thorax for an female pony.
Unless DHX is gonna give the Changelings a new name, I’m gonna call them “Alola Changelings.”

Hey yeah, that’s why they’re called stag beetles. Neat.
he was effected by the crystal heart or something

Who cares what you think. The new changling look is still awesome.
