Actually, Gamma Guns are effective against most foes, people just tend to read the 'radiation damage' thing and assume it's super situational. The damage a Gamma Gun does bypasses radiation immunity as direct damage, so it is effective against robots and most wasteland animals, and it deals explosive damage on top of that. Of course, rad resistance is still in effect, so super mutants will be able to take a few shots from a Gamma Gun, and ghouls will be outright healed by it unless you have Lorenzo's artifact, the zeta dish, or the electric signal carrier modded on, in which case they will take direct damage instead. If you have Nuclear Physicist and Demolitions Expert, this weapon becomes very formidable, enough to bring down a Super Mutant Behemoth fairly quickly. Of course, power armor and Deathclaws are still a problem, but when aren't they?
