I grew up with 80’s and 90’s animation myself and I think the flash animation used in this show is actually pretty well done; in fact, it’s among the best I’ve ever seen. This is coming from someone who normally doesn’t like most flash-animated shows. While there are certainly flash-animated shows that look like crap, such as the later seasons of Johnny Test, the flash animation in this show is a league of its own. IMO, it’s very well designed, it’s colorful, it moves very fluidly, and the lines actually have tapered lines, which if I remember Lauren Faust stating once, the animators had to invent specifically for the show.
Just because it uses computers doesn’t automatically make it “cheap” and the fact you immediately dismiss it as such is kind of short-sighted. This show made me realize that the art tool/medium isn’t what matters, what matters is the effort and quality put behind it. There are a few shows with amazing flash animation and at the same time there are some shows with crappily-drawn traditional animation. I would rather look at MLP’s animation than stand to look at Rugrats or any other show animated by Klasky-Csupo. Computers make it easy but that doesn’t automatically make it lazy.

Eh it just looks weird to me. I really liked Maud’s outfit because it fit her well and looked like something an equestrian pony would wear. This just looks odd. I mean the canon art style itself is rather bland, but it is what it is. I really like the art some of the community does because I personally like traditional hand drawn art over vectored cheap flash animation. Though we all know we’ll never see a decently traditional style animation from this show. Just too much. I guess I was spoiled by old school 80’s and 90’s Disney and such cartoon animation (also stuff from Don Bluth), so its hard to like what the show itself has.
That’s one thing I like about this show: how they wear skirts that still make their flanks plain to see yet because clothes are optional for ponies, it’s not considered risque~
Makes me wonder if they’ll ever have ponies wearing stockings. Probably not, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
Human designed skirts on equestrian ponies… Only Maud seems to wear a pony style outfit.
