Yeah, in fact, despite it’s wonky physics, the GG version of “Sonic Spinball” was also easier then the Genesis one. It’s easier to avoid falling between the flippers in that one, and the later levels are easier. I managed to beat it my first playthrough because of that.
The GG version of “Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine” has a cool “Puzzle” mode not in the Genesis one. So there are some interesting differences between the versions.

The Game Gear version is actually an “upgrade” from the Master System one: they changed the intro a bit, adding some animations; the Aqua Lake Zone Act 2 got improved graphics; they removed the only Power Sneakers box in the game and changed the boss theme. However, because the screen is shorter, they accidentally (or not!) made the game harder, especially when you are trying to control when you land after hitting a spring and in the boss fights.
The interesting thing is that it’s the only case the Game Gear version is harder than the Master System one. For Sonic 1, Sonic Chaos (or Sonic & Tails) and Dr. Robotnik Mean Bean Machine, the opposite is true, while for Sonic Blast it was only a port for Master System made by Tectoy.

I beat it without one, or the level select code a few times actually.
Though, yeah the 8-bit Sonic 2 for GameGear was insanely frustrating. (For those unaware, regardless of sharing the same title, it is NOT the same game as the 16-bit Genesis/Megadrive version of Sonic 2.) I hear the Master System version was better, sense due to it’s larger resolution, you can actually see where you’re going. Regardless, it’s probably one of my least liked Sonic titles. (The game did give us an early 8-bit rendition of “Toot Toot Sonic Warrior.” So I’ll give it that.)
This game is hard as buck! Even harder than Sonic 2 for Game Gear IMO…
There’s actually a tag for it surprisingly. (Adds it.)
We need more spin Dash!
@Officer Hot-Pants
It’s from Lesson Zero, when everyone meets up in the library to defend Twilight.
Rarity Spinball? I loved that game! Never got past level three but it was still a fabulous good time.
You’re welcome.
