Of course, black Twilight has been around so long I think some people have just accepted it as fanon, like Vinyl’s eye color being red up until the show made it magenta.
Damn I’m rambling again. Point is I think a lot of artist make Twilight black not because they want to but because they feel they should.
I want to say (and I’m being pretty lenient here) Twilight gets most of the non-white depictions because she’s the protagonist, and perhaps the idea of a woman of color being the main hero in a cast of different, or even just white, ethnicity choices just appeals more to people who like variety, if not something more social-based.
As for things being PC, I don’t mind it. Even at its worst, it’s still well-intentioned, but that’s just me.
These are the questions that keep me up at night….
Ultimately, you’d end up wondering why the distinction was made. the timeless question “Why is Twilight a nigger?” is more than just racist trolling. It’s a question every artist must ask himself. Why is Twilight different? What makes half the mane six one race and the other half another? If the artist provides no answer, it’s up to the audience to interpret his choices.
This doesn’t look like the usual case of PC gone wild. The anime style lends itself to a more ambiguously brown interpretation. The color was probably chosen because it looks nice, not because of diversity.
What if half were white and half were black, but no explanation was given to why?
Why indeed? If they were all black, I probably wouldn’t object. If all of them were black but Twilight, it would beg the question, “well why is she white?” It’s not the race that counts, it’s the unexplained difference.
If the artist has a reason for it, that’s fine. It can even be a reason as simple as “I liked how the color looked with her palette.” Otherwise, it’s just race for the sake of race.
That said, the colors look pretty damn nice. It’s a better, more natural shade of brown than you see in most humanizations.
Everyone else looks pretty good too, but where the fuck Applejack at?
The fuck?
Nice designs.
