The fact the gags are ok apparently says its ok in the first place
Really Spike would be around human CMCs age if he was human.
He was close to their age(if not a bit older)

They didn’t think things through at all since this “gag” fucked his character over in EQ in the long-run
The fact that Diamond Dogs(literal dogs) are humans but Spike isn’t really added salt to his wounds
I know its been 4 weeks since replying but I didn’t get the chance till now

In all honesty, all creatures in Equestria who are both sentient and have culture should’ve become humanoid in the EQG world. I guess the creators thought a dog Spike is funny, but then again they’re not thinking about the shipping part of the fandom which are still presently irritated with the decision.
I am however glad the Diamond dogs become human though. It add contrast to have some large brutish bullies arouund who are far larger than Big mac, instead of having a whole high-school of similarly shaped and sized individuals.

yet regular show was fine with his crush on Rarity in general.
The reason why was mainly for the gags actually.
Given how the human CMC are teens too(albeit starting year), Spike can be that too
Sadly, I doubt it.

That’s mainly because if he was human, he would be a kid. And considering his love for rarity at the time… Yeah.
And I know he can be a teenager, but considering how small he is, I doubt it.
