That makes sense.
That’s where you’re wrong. People often think that the first letter of a word is what depends if you put a or an, but it’s actually the first sound that is the factor.
Unicorn, like university, has a long u sound (a sound like you’re just saying the letter aloud) and the sound starts like /yuw/. The sound starts with a consonant so we give it “a” as the article.
…….I’m an English professor. Meh.
I just copied and pasted Off a transcript and just replaced land creature and sea creature with Earth Pony and unicorn
That brings me to another question:
We’re supposed to use “an” before a word starting with a vowel, but “A Unicorn” sounds better than “An Unicorn”
English is weird.
