For those who don’t know about the canon bunny

Angron would like to have a word with you.
an Angry Marine
after doom 2016 i dont know who’s more pissed, him or kratos
You say that like Doomguy wouldn’t love to just get back to slaughtering demons in hell in the first place.
By that logic veterans of games like Trouble in Terrorist Town would shoot everybody on site each and every game because “They MIGHT be the traitor”.
Depends really, Doom is suppose to be about demon splattering goodness, at least I think it is. To break that action just so you can “deepen the story” or have a scene where the character whine about how they feel about being in a demon infested outpost would kill the mood and most players would just try to skip through it. It’s kinda like how in Soma they would stop all gameplay just so Simon could have one of his BFs or to force the whole “what is life” debate on you. It takes you out completely out of the game and any fear you may have gets dumped and has to be re-built up.
Why do you assume I’m in the camp that hated DOOM 3? I thought it was an alright game, although I didn’t care for the horror focus. And it had a really nice Engine.
||Scene 1 seems more likely. After spending years fighting demons, it can leave a guy with some PTSD. I’d imagine he’d see the ponies as demons in disguise, like you said.
Hence why, if Twilight saw him coming into her world, (and demons are not about) SHE SHOULD SEND HIM AWAY IMMEDIATELY! Otherwise, she’ll have to explain to her teacher all the massive amount of lives lost just because she tried to accommodate a psychotic butcherer… ||
That quote from Carmack seems a bit dickish, don’t ya think?
“Yea, we could do a good story but fuck it, no-one cares!”
“I care about a story-”
“GO READ A BOOK THEN, ASSHOLE!”
Me too, hence why no one can call me a nostalgiafag for ragging on 4OOM.
I liked it too.
I liked the atmosphere and the guns were fun.
It wasn’t quite as scary after 10th jump scare in a row but nothings perfect.
I haven’t played doom 4 yet but I’m sure I’ll like that one too, it looks fun as hell.
Edited
I don’t know about anyone else, but I actually like Doom 3.
Because when DOOM 3 does it, it’s crap; but when 4OOM does it, it’s cool.
Mind you this was the story for the doomguy from the older games. I haven’t played the new one yet so in that one you might be a new doomguy. And if by “context” you mean hearing the story in game you probably wont. With doom the closest thing to a story you’ll get is “here’s a gun, go shoot demons”. Heck, if I remember the original doom was suppose to have this deep, lore rich story with three people you could play as. The script wasn’t used because, and I’m quoting the maker here, “story in a video game is like story in a porno. It’s expected to be there but it’s not that important.”
pretty sure since is a DOOM sequel, it’s still the original DOOMGuy who refused to shoot innocent people, fought some demons somewhere, and then y’know
Edited
Suddenly a bit less sympathetic, but there wasn’t a lot to start.
Mild Spoilers for the new game: That’s the old backstory.
The new one still has that twisted heroic nature however, as He’s fought demons a long time ago, and was imprisioned because they couldn’t kill him. In fact he seems to have had some sorta spell casted on him that makes him thirsty for demon blood. He was found by the UAC as they exploited hell.
I’d like to have this context in-game. But we’re not all that lucky.
If I remember right Doomguy got sent to Mars for assaulting an officer who ordered him to fire on innocent civilians. So there is some good there. Good covered by heaps of gore and bullet shells. But still, its there.
