The cartoon sorta/kinda tried to address that point too…. By giving them rubber person masks to wear. Which just made things even worse XD
 
Can’t really remember them ever really using that trick in the comics (originals or Archie series). Only time they /sorta/ did that, they were in the middle east, and covered head to toe in robes.

In my master sleuth opinion, Brownie Bun is the seemingly normal woman wearing slacks, dark shirt, and snazzy hat buying 8000 sugar cubes!
 
I admit, this case almost had me stumped, her disguise that great. She would have gotten away with it, had she not made a single, fatal mistake. And that mistake was buying 8000 sugar cubes! Because only PONIES buy that many sugar cubes at a time!
