Belatedly I will answer all the uneven. I know the cosplayer personally and I can share a couple of facts:
 
It was in 2015 in Moscow.
 
The airsoft replica of the Mosin Rifle was used as a props. that is, the layout. toy. not a combat rifle. (at that time it cost about 16K rubles. Count your dollars yourself, I’m too lazy)
 
And the bed was painted with gouache and covered with hairspray. The paint was washed off the next day. For one day of cosplay, he wouldn’t mutilate a rifle anymore.  
(By the way, later Mosin was sold into the good hands of an airsoft reenactor of the Red Army.

My guess would be he just bought a second stock to paint, or painted his original. Kinda cringe but so are the archangel kits that are popular tbh.
 
Honestly surprised any con let him cosplay with a rifle even if the bolt is out.

Mr. Edgy painted his mosin up to match his MLP zebra OC.
