Actually, only in places like the Everfree Forest are animals really wild. Remember Fluttershy’s line about how “animals take care of themselves” in that forest. In the rest of Equestria, some pony has to wake up the hibernators and bring back the migrating birds.

Those are wild animals though, and Fluttershy’s care seems mostly luxurious and borders on pampering. And they already have a vet. RD has/had a job on the weather team, Twilight most likely gets a full ride from Celestia.
I always assumed she was being paid to look after the local area’s animals. I always thought FS, TS and RD were all being paid by the government.
And there’s always big chorus gigs.
Who apparently is still living with his parents and too unmotivated to get a job.
I mean Fluttershy taking care of pets while their owners are away.
So then mentally rather than financially. I guess that confirms that he’s going to be a jerk or something, since the parents wouldn’t really mind otherwise.

Seeing as how they keep calling them wild animals or critters, and how ponyville already has a Vet I don’t think so.
I’m hoping the episode confirms that Fluttershy gets payed for looking after other’s pets.
