Emerald realizes that if anyone was going to come search the tower they’d have to come through this door… At least he thinks they would.
Emerald shuts the door quietly and makes his way down the stairs. There are doors all along here as well, but they aren’t the same as he’s seen above… They are all heavy, metal, and with a single, barred opening at about eye level to peer into. These are clearly cell doors.
Most seem locked or rusted shut. Either way they likely have nothing in them nor lead to anywhere that he could escape. Emerald keeps going and after a while he finally hits the bottom of the stairs.
It opens up into a room with a small raised platform in the center that have what look like candle stick holders on the corners. In the middle of the platform is a strange symbol that Emerald doesn’t recognize.

Emerald, in the present, thinks about where/if he has seen that symbol on the ground before. He knows he didn’t recognize it then, but perhaps he’s read something since then?
