But you have to admit, Chrysalis was acting pretty horrible in the show. That’s not nobody’s fault, that’s on her.

And really, I like that kind of villain, too. Nobody is the way they are for no reason, or just one reason. Most of the time, it’s just a snowball effect of events that have happened, but whether or not we’re a “hero” or a “villain” is how we choose to react to it and how others perceive those actions. Chrysalis, however well-meaning she could have been, didn’t garner much in terms of sympathy from the ponies (or us, due to us looking through the ponies’ viewpoint) by trying to manipulate and fracture the Mane 6 nor gloating about it when she felt she had attained victory. From a changeling’s view, however, her actions could have been necessary for their survival.

Like your comic shows, they could’ve been run out because of ponies wanting to protect their loved ones and being fearful of them amidst all the predators and monsters, and so finally having that upper hand would mean so much to them.

Also, timeline-wise, this seems to be somewhere before the rise of Equestria, when the races were separated into kingdoms, or maybe even further back when they might have been still small tribes, so it would make sense that they hadn’t learn about the Magic of Friendship because they haven’t had the Hearth’s Warming yet.

It’s a past story. Before the show. Before pony know about friendship. Pony in old age just more aggressive than today. Just like human in our world. In the past we used to hunt for the witch before. Used to fight against people that doesn’t have same color skin as us. But now we don’t have it, right? We learn and finally make peace and tried to understand each other, right?

Sigh…. A matter of Changeling always be a sensitive subject for everyone. That why most comic try to avoid pay attantion on this or just make them completely being evil like IDW comic. Or just throwing every fault to Queen Chrysalis and call her for being jerk, aggressive, tyrant, Power hunger etc. But I don’t like Villain with one dimension…I like a villain with a reason…Why them came to be a villain…What make them to be…

But actually…It’s nobody fault. It’s not pony nor Changeling fault. They just do what they think it right. One just try to survive. Another just try to protect themselves. Equestria have so many villain and also have many scary monster (Like Timberwolf, Hydra, Dragon Pluderseed etc.) That see pony as prey. Pony isn’t racist. They just want to protect themselves and pony they love from harm. They don’t know what will happen if their love was take away by Changeling. They don’t know what a creature that can be anything can do to destroy them.

Pony think it Changeling fault while Changeling think it’s pony fault. They keep throwing the fault to each other and don’t accept their own fault. The point of this comic isn’t about to find who right or wrong. The point is to learn to accept the mistake. Learn to accept the difference. Learn to forget the past and live with a present. And find a solution for both race to finally make peace in the end.

…….But if you still try to find and blame the fault to someone…You will never learn about friendship….
Magic Man

I just don’t think I buy into the whole “it’s all the ponies fault in the first place because they’re xenophobic jerkwads” explanation.

I’m not gonna bother denying the claim ponies are superstitious and distrusting of things they don’t understand, because that’s straight up true, with Bridle Gossip as a prime example. Here’s the difference however: going by their track record in the show, ponies simply don’t seem to respond to perceived threats the same way we humans do, or the way you’re showing them here. Allow me to quote fimfic author Fervidor:

“If we look at Bridle Gossip, the episode that deals specifically with prejudice, how do all the ponies in Ponyville react to Zecora? Do they try to run her out of town? Do they go: “We don’t want your kind here!”, form an angry mob, etc?
No. They run and hide. They barricade themselves in their homes the moment she shows up, and then they simply wait for her to leave. They didn’t know anything about her because they literally never confronted her at all. And Pinkie’s overactive imagination aside, they didn’t react like that because they thought she was dangerous - most of them hid from her just because they thought she looked kinda weird and talked funny. That’s a whole damn town going into complete shut-down just because one stranger showed up. Even a very aggressive pony like Rainbow Dash felt it was best to just lay low for a while.
In other words, when the ponies are confronted with an “outsider”, something intimidating that they don’t understand, their collective instinct seems to be to avoid it at all cost. Which kinda makes sense, because they’re herbivorious herd animals and running away is how herd animals deal with threats. They can go on the offensive, sure, but usually only when directly provoked - Applejack would only confront Zecora when she thought Apple Bloom was in immediate danger.
This makes them notacibly different from us humans, who tend to be much more aggressive and territorial. When confronted with someone we consider an “outsider” to our “tribe”. our first instinct tends to be to either drive the outsiders away from our territory, or plain destroy them.
So basically, even though ponies can be just as prejudiced as humans, they would express their prejudice in the form of avoidance rather than persecution.”

Honestly, this is what always gets me. Why is it then that so many fanfics have it that whenever a changeling appears in Ponyville, creatures that Are known to be an active threat, the ponies suddenly turn into murderous “kill kill kill!” mode; and yet they piss their pants and run from a zebra and a stampede of bunnies in the show?

And why is that the changelings constantly reduced to a bunch whimpering crybabies who wouldn’t dare even raise a hoof? I mean, Seriously, it’s more quick to count the pictures and panels in this comic where the changelings AREN’T depicted as looking pweciously miserable and kawaii, just the same with pictures where ponies aren’t harsh or cruel or Demonic. When I compare this comic to the show and the IDW series, they’re like as almost two entirely different species except in name and appearance.

Even if I accept the idea that ponies are the racist oppressors, it still begs me the question: What does a Changeling– a Predator – have to fear from a PONY – a Prey? It’s just… frustrating, this idea that this warrior race of creatures who took down the pony capital in MINUTES now tremble in fear from these HERD HERBIVORES!

It’s just… there’s so much glaring bias in this story and it drives me nuts. Whenever the comic discusses the history and reasons behind the pony-changeling conflict, it seems to do everything possible to absolve the near-saintly changelings of any blame (ala the most convenient excuse that their feeding does no real harm as discussed by others below and overlooking the fact they still lied to and deceived the ponies), while simultaneously going out of its way to paint the ponies as being Awful and repugnant as possible.

I know people are going to think I’m just being a hater and I’m taking it too seriously, but this sort of thing does get under by skin easily, and so much of the comic is focusing on it it’s hard to ignore.

Then again, maybe it just proves how much this comic just isn’t for me. If folks here are happy with this explanation, then I can’t exactly force them not to, nor should I. I simply can’t swallow it.

Also morons. Relatively, though. I’m no psychiatric, but certain actions and segments of dialogue from the characters aren’t very plausible. However, this is just because this is a kids’ program based on solving social conflicts we learned how to resolve ten years ago.

Not to say the level of “dumbing down” is as severe as other TV-Y-rated programs. Obviously, we exist because the show has a higher quality of scripting, with innuendo and references that are par for past programs produced by Tartakofsky and Hartmann.

If I ever do encounter in life a campy social conflict involving people who talk like Pokémon characters, I will give you the funds necessary to purchase a Gen 9 console. lol

To be honest, I rarely watched past episodes because I find their errant obliviousness hard to watch unless I’m in a better mood. Now, as I type… Actually, today was pretty okay. X3

That doesn’t exactly spell “moron” to me. More like cocky and a bit short-sighted in a moment or two. Besides, if you’re prepared to call Chrysalis a moron in the show, I don’t know what you’d call Celestia and the Mane 6 minus Twilight.

She was able to get in, steal Shining’s love, enabled her army to break through Shining’s shield. But, she had to improvise once Twilight became suspicious of her foalsitter’s odd actions. Improvisation occasionally works, but given the right moment the opponent can turn the tables. Kind of like a Batman villain. A sudden counterattack while your guard is down and you’ve very little chance to recover. The magic of ponies is fairly unpredictable as well, but if not an energy burst powered by love, you could be done in by a sudden shot to the head or accidentially setting yourself on fire. (Don’t try to guess that reference because I’m going to flat out tell you: Makoto Shishio from Rurouni Kenshin. XD )

Again I say, what would have happened if a Guard had walked in on her little song? XD

IIRC, wasn’t her origin in that specifically of an evil magic variety? So by default she’s nowhere near as tragic as she wants to think she is.

I hate to say this, but this makes more sense if you take into account her supposed “origin”.

Well, yeah. KIDNAPPING someone without telling them and expecting people not to react badly is not only, at best, dickish, it’s also incredibly fucking stupid. Did Chrysalis seriously have such a poor grasp of social skills that she didn’t think this might get a bad reaction? I mean, she EATS LOVE. She has to have SOME grasp on pony emotions and social norms to do what she does.

This explanation paints Chrysalis as either an idiot or a villain, and certainly not sympathetic. She’s like Kyubey with brain damage.
