Think a minute. What is the point of fuel tax?  
Why are taxes on fuel climbing?
 
Yellow vests are clueless and ignore the tax on fuel is a sanction. Sanction for what? Sanction for destroying the planet.
 
Taxes forces people to drive less and switch to less consumption, and taxes are nothing compared to what they are doing. Tax are here trying to discipline people and make sure they are conscious, and this is not enough. Not only there should be tax but rationing of fuel. You’re not happy?
 
Go with an electric or at least a hybrid. Why I am pissed? Because of your habits proper to capitalism, burning fuel to like, travel, anything, you are preparing a horrible future for the next generation.

I don’t use a car, I have a bicycle, and that’s just enough to do everything you need. For longer distance opt for train or electric.

Those fuel taxes where implemented without giving incentives to switch to lower-carbon transportation. Meaning the average worker got stuck with paying more for doing the same mileage for their daily commute and having to somehow work the hiked-up cost into their already shoestring budget (telling people to buy new electric or hybrid cars is great, but how are they supposed to finance them when they already have the loans for they allegedly-low-emission and now-worthless diesel cars to pay for?).  
Worse: an analysis of the government budget evidenced that a mere fraction of the carbon tax income was used to implement energy-saving measures. Meaning that those were a mere greenwashing excuse for the government to make more money off the back of the working class while the rich get a break on their wealth tax.
 
I was, in the beginning, also worried that yellow vests would be useful idiots for the transport lobby, like the red caps (Breton peasants protesting a road tax applying on freight trucks) were under François Hollande. Except the yellow vest movement goes beyond that: it’s people being fed up with social injustice, with a government that doesn’t care for the most vulnerable, with a president out of touch with the everyman’s plight and whose moniker of “president of the rich” is well-deserved. And the brutality of the police response (denounced by both the UN and the Council of Europe) is only further proof that the ones in power simply don’t care.
 
Replying to the climate emergency is necessary, but not by penalizing those who can do the least about it and whose life is already hard enough without the additional tax pressure.  
Next time you want to criticize a popular movement, make sure you know what you’re talking about, lest you sound just like the contemptuous twats currently in charge.

Sanctions! That’s an honest word, but I call this theft, bullying, racket. Carbon tax hurts the worker, globalization is the main cause of carbon emissions by letting countries with no respect for environement to produce everything.

And this, is only the anthropogenic made CO2 emissions, it is a fraction of the natural occurring (volcanic activity and all life combined) which is also a fraction of the cause of climate change ( Milanković cycles, and other solar activity, which is a cycle, along with many other factors.)  
Climate changes climate always changes and instead of blaming people for it, and accusing X or Y for something we can not control, let’s start to anticipate it.

Regardless of their political orientation, if a movement of people in the streets is welcomed with teargas and flashballs, you must support it.  
We are heading to a form of unforeseen tyranny where the government will find any pretext to attack the people, and the media telling you everything is fine, they are just dissidents.

I understand why they are nervous. My question is why they think this particular act might be a “large threat” to this site, given the extent to which we already respect the copyrights of the fan artists, Hasbro, and companies like LionsGate and other distributors of MLP-related IP?
 
This is just my personal opinion AND IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE but everything that might reasonably be posted on this site that could conceivably fall under any copyright laws falls into two broad categories: stuff that Hasbro or their licensees are not ok with us hosting which we already have processes to remove as soon as it is detected, and the copyrights that fan artists themselves hold.
 
If you want proof of that, just consider all of the outrage that occurs whenever we delete scenes from leaked movies or episodes, or outright stollen assets from any of Hasbro’s animation factories.
 
Both in practice and in policy, we are quick to comply with copyright issues with intellectual property whether it is Hasbro’s and their licensees’, or fan artists. We don’t care if it’s “Small Claims” or “Major Lawsuit” - we treat it the same.
 
If someone, regardless of which country they are in, reports an infringement of copyright, we promptly investigate it and resolve it. And every now and then if some particularly offended person isn’t happy with the the resolution (usually involving “Ponysonnas”) they still threaten to take us to court in Germany or Australia or Russia to the point that if you can name a place, we’ve probably been threatened with a frivolous and baseless lawsuit from there. I bet somewhere in the logs there’s someone who literally threatened to take us to court in the Supreme Court Of Hasbro.
 
Besides which, this is a tiny site by comparison to the sites that are being targeted in this act.
 
Also, we are NOT in the United States. This is an American law. We’re not an American site.
 
So … how does this act represent a “large threat” to this site?
 
I think that’s an important question to ask, no matter how “nervous” someone is.
 
Because when some users have been “just nervous” about these kinds of issues on the site in the past, it didn’t matter what anyone on staff said - even when the owner of the site said it didn’t matter they just keep picking at it and asking the same question every couple of days, panicking about it on threads and images all over the site to the point where we had to ban them because they started going after other users who happened to be from “Country X” or “Union E” because “they were the enemy of the real fans” just because of where they lived.
 
So I would like to turn it around - this time instead of dealing with MONTHS of picking and poking at this issue, ignoring every single response anyone from staff gives, I would like to hear:
 
What. Is. The. Actual. Threat. That. You. See. In. This. Act.
 
Alternatively; what do you see in our practices and stated policies on this site, or the application of this proposed law in international courts, that would not already put us into a situation where this act has no, or only very limited, effect on us?
 
This act started in 2017. It’s still plodding along. Why is it a “Large Threat” to this site, today?
