Remember how Lost World had that NiGHTS-based zone as DLC, but it was just a glorified boss rush of the Deadly Six with their robots/machines reskinned to look like NiGHTS bosses?

I’ve love to see a remastered fully finished Sonic 06, but since I know SEGA is too afraid to touch that one again, hopefully the fan-made PC port will do. >_>

And even if it were remastered and fully finished with all the bugs fixed and the gameplay improved… the story would still suck.

Who cares? It’s not like stories in Sonic games were ever treated as pinnacle’s of storytelling anyway. Frankly I’ll take a dumb over the top story of a bare bones didn’t even try story any day. And I don’t mean like Sonic 1, I mean like Generations.

They tried with Shadow’s story. But they didn’t with Sonic’s

Sonic’s story is the weakest by far. Shadow and Silver have decent ones. Unfortunately, most people only ever seem to focus on Sonic’s and the ending.

Probably because that’s the first story they play and it gives them a bad first impression.

I don’t see how “Generations’s” story was so bad. I kinda liked the twist that inverts the whole “monster of the week is the true villain” twist most recent games have done, with it turning out inetead Eggman is the true final boss instead, and actually managed to actually successfully control the monster for once, instead of it turning on him, like they always do.  
Kinda made Eggman more of a threat, and showed sometimes he can be competent. Plus it seemed suiting for the anniversary game.
 
Some of the dialogue was entertaining to me too, I liked the character cameos, some of the nods to the series, and the ending was nice. Sometimes a more simple story isn’t a bad thing.

I feel modern Sonic stories seem to carry out like family guy skits (Colours,Lost World) and the characters don’t seem to take their situation seriously at all. Just standing around cracking jokes.
 
LB doesn’t like how Sonic’s friends got the shaft in it and feels they could have done so much more with it being an anniversary title.

The only really bad impression I got was the mach speed sections. I’d have enjoyed Sonic’s parts more if those didn’t exist. The story, well I never took Sonic stories too seriously so I never saw why people got up in arms about Elise. It’s basically a full-fledged concept of Madonna from the Sonic 1 pre-release concepts. ‘Course not everyone cares about beta stuff and it was scrapped with good reason.
 
Plus I like the concept of interspecies, so even if Elise and Sonic were like the worst characters in the game, the idea didn’t bother me as much as just not caring for them.

Perhaps, but I think they wanted to focus on the gameplay, rather then cinematic scenes. (I actually enjoyed the scenes in “Lost World,” and they weren’t all humorous, in fact the villains get rather dark later on.)  
And granted, even the darker games had their humorous, or goofy moments.
 
It seems to be a lose-lose situation really.  
If they make a darker Sonic game, fans complain about “omg teh edge!” If they make a lighter game story, then fans complain it’s not serious enough.

Yeah, pretty much. Jokes are fine and every Sonic game story is full of dumb ones, but it’s like all they are. They’re supposed to take themselves seriously in the silly universe they’re in. SA1 has a serious story in the world, but it has tons of silly things in it, intentional and not. I like that balance.
 
Same applies to Shadow’s game too, every interaction of him and Sonic was a gold mine.

The shattered fanbase is probably mostly due to when said fans joined the series. I got into Sonic at a point when the series had lots of games where the focus was on multiple playable characters and stories with them and at least semi-serious plots. I reckon I’d be a lot less torn up about the Sonic-only stuff if I didn’t spend a year of my childhood playing Heroes, Battle, and Advance 3, and then picking it back up again a couple years later with SA1.

I’m really torn to be honest. I liked the multiple playable characters and play styles in the older games, but I’m also fine with the Sonic-only stuff that’s been around for the past 10 years.

Kinda like how those whom grew up with SatA.M. prefer a more serious Americanized Sonic, while those whom grew up with Sonic X prefer a more anime-esque, and less serious Sonic.

Same here. I’m glad they at least brought back Tails & Knux as playables. Mighty & Ray are nice surprises too.

Bit disappointed that Mighty and Ray’s super forms just glow a bit and their design and colors don’t change like the others.

Bummer, I was kinda disapointed they didn’t bring back Tails’ & Knuckles’ super forms in “Sonic Heroes,” even though that was the perfect opportunity to.
 
Speaking of which, I kinda hope “What I’m made of!” makes it into “SSB Ultimate.”  
As I’ve mentioned before Jun Senoue is officially working as a sound composer for that game, so we might get some new Sonic remixes finally.

I grew up with AoStH sorta, and I didn’t watch SatAM until 2007, but I still prefer Western Sonic lore over Japanese Sonic lore as a whole, Including mohawk Sonic and brown Tails.

Wish most super forms beyond Sonic and Blaze weren’t just made yellow these days. I liked Shadow being more silverish, and Knuckles being pink. Also wish Tails and Knuckles being able to go super was part of modern lore as it’s dumb that they aren’t allowed to.

I mean, I much prefer their traditional super forms as opposed to “literally exactly the same but surrounded by a shield” from Heroes. And I’m glad they brought the traditional ones instead, though it is a shame that Super Tails no longer has the Flickies.
 
EDIT: And I just realized that you were saying you were upset at how they did that in Heroes.

It is something really bugged me that Tails and Knuckles can’t go super and will always bug me.

I still wish Amy would go Super at some point.

For some random reason, I am greatly amused at the idea of Cream going Super.

Sega probably finds it easier to simply stick with Super Sonic.

Mmmm. For story reasons, it’s probably just to make Sonic seem more special, but Heroes had zero excuse. Couldn’t have been hard either, as fans have modded that easily.
