I just can’t keep up with the trading card game after 20+ years. Learning to play the basic game was hard enough for me.

I have a problem.
I have a Shiny Tyrogue. I want it to evolve into Hitmontop. In order to do that, its Attack and Defense have to be equal.
However, the Tyrogue is Relaxed nature, meaning it gets a boost in its Defense stat, meaning it’s almost certainly going to have a higher Defense stat and evolve into Hitmonchan.
Normally, this would be great. The Iron Fist ability it gets boosts its punching moves, which is basically all it learns, and it just is great physical attacker.
However, it’s not getting Iron Fist. I saved my game before Tyrogue evolved to get a “preview” of Hitmonchan, and it gets the comparatively worthless Keen Eye ability, which stops accuracy loss. Enemy Pokemon stop using accuracy-dropping moves like Sand Attack less than halfway through the game.
And this is going to sound petty, but it also has a pretty ugly Shiny color. All radioactive green and faded brown and dusty blue.
But even after all this…..I don’t want to drop him from the team. He’s Shiny, that’s insanely rare, and I feel like I’m forcing him to be something he’s not by forcing a bunch of Attack EVs on him to balance out the boosted Defense.

I probably am. For now. Unfortunately, there’s no way to change his Ability outside of catching a Ditto and breeding an entirely new Tyrogue, though getting another Shiny one is going to be an absolute bitch.
And there’s no way I can change his Nature, not that I’d want to even if it was possible, because that feels extremely close to brainwashing someone until their literal personality changes, which makes me very uncomfortable.

He has the Intimidate Ability, which isn’t quite as good as his other possible ability, Technician, but SO much better than Keen Eye.
His Shiny color is bright purple, which is still a little garish, but it’s starting to grow on me.

You can train up it’s EVs.
I took your advice and just started to attack only Pokemon that gave Attack EVs upon defeat and nothing else. And lo and behold, the Tyrogue got the single point in Attack he needed to balance out and become Hitmontop!
