I liked all the puns and interesting lolzy tags it were one of BEST features of community here, now we can play bet game what tag next will get down and how it will be another boring soon the same chan like any others. I bet that cute/adorable pun tag will get shot down next (because there is not much anymore)

The mods have repeatedly indicated that they don’t have a strong consensus either way. And Midgyth (a mod) has constantly been defending these tags. So some of your side is getting through.

Aaaaaaaaand now I remember why I disliked these tags.

• They’re not intuitive: as a new user, if I see “Headlight Sparkle” in the tag box of an image like this, this, or this, I have no idea what that tag means. None. It’s just a confusing line of text.
   
• They don’t help me find tags for other characters. Even if we kept an alias from “pun” to “no-fun-allowed standard”, it’d take a new user several images and several clicks to realize that the standard exists, and that aliases can be searched like that.
   
• A vast number of the pun tags are outright bad, and they “win” over others simply because someone had more free time or cared more and added the tag to as many images as possible before others could do anything about it.
   
• Because they’re puns and “funny”, people love to overtag them, even when not conceivably applicable. IN THE BEGINNING, back when the first ones started showing up in Ponibooru, they’d only get applied on images of double Ds and higher (going into the fetish realms) where the breasts were a focus. Last few years, it’s practically anything that shows a character with a B cup or above, regardless of context. You may as well just search for “breasts (humanized OR anthro)”.
   
• As I stated previously, the way they’re used often puts undue focus on the breasts, and sexualizing the character, and the artist’s work. Someone could spend hours creating an image with emotion and character, and someone will come by and go “nice honkers!”. While that can be bad enough as a comment, it’s in the tags, and the tags are what describe the images. You’ve taken something like this and reduced it all to “lol boobies XD”.

Most “pun” (using that very liberally) boob names were god damned awful, would win over other tags by virtue of their “clever” creator spamming them about, and were applied so liberally any image showing a character with a cup size over B would get them, NSFW or not. Their application ended up being the imageboard version of meeting someone and immediately exclaiming “nice tits, hot stuff!”, regardless of context.

…these form part of Derpibooru’s culture. There’s nothing to fill in that gap once those tags are removed.  

They are were part of Derpibooru’s unique style though.  

But I think this is the end of punny tags on this site. They will all be replaced sooner or later.
